Runaway Barge Near Corpus Christi
A barge has gone adrift and ran aground near the Packery Channel in Corpus Christi, Texas on Thursday.The U.S. Coast Guard said it received a call at 7:45 a.m. from a driver on Texas State Highway 361 stating they saw an adrift barge floating in the Packery Channel between the boat ramp and the jetties. The barge was loaded with rocks and drifting outbound.The Coast Guard notified Callan Marine, the company contracted to repair the jetty using the barge, and issued a safety marine information broadcast to alert nearby mariners and beachgoers to the potential hazard.
Three Rescued from Barge After Tug Sinks off Rhode Island
Three mariners were rescued from a disabled barge Wednesday after their tug sank off the coast of Point Judith, R.I.At 8:17 a.m., watchstanders at U.S. Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England, in Woods Hole, Mass., received a call via VHF Channel 16 from the tug Warthog, reporting their vessel was taking on water, and had a barge in tow. A Coast Guard Station Point Judith 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew immediately launched to assist, and when they arrived on scene, the tug was completely submerged, and all three Warthog crewmembers were on the 108-foot barge.
Barge Captain Gets Prison Time for Fatal Explosion
An Illinois man who was captain of a petroleum barge that exploded in a Chicago canal in 2005, killing a crew member, was sentenced to six months in prison on Friday, prosecutors said. Dennis Egan, 36, of Topeka in central Illinois, and the barge owner, Egan Marine Corp. of Lemont, were each convicted in June 2014 of negligent manslaughter of a seaman and negligently discharging oil into a waterway, according to a statement from prosecutors. NTSB Opens AK Collision Probe
NTSB investigating collision between tug/barge and US Coast Guard vessel. The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the collision between two vessels in Cordova, Alaska, on Sunday. On July 28 at about 7:00 am AKDT, the integrated tug/barge Krystal Sea was maneuvering its attached barge, the Cordova Provider, into the harbor when the forward section of the barge struck the moored US Coast Guard Cutter Sycamore. The port bow of the cutter was damaged; no one was injured in the accident.
USCG Monitors Retrieval of Empty Oil Barge
The U.S. Coast Guard issued a Press Release stating that it monitored the retrieval of an empty oil barge after the towing line connecting it to a tug separated. The barge was inbound in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The tow was re-established after about 2 and one-half hours. 10 Stowaways Found on U.S. Barge
A U.S. Coast Guard port security team, assisted by DHS partner agencies Customs & Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), apprehended 10 stowaways from the Dominican Republic aboard the barge Sea Islander in San Juan yesterday (May 24). Crewmembers on board the barge were complying with a Coast Guard requirement to check the vessel for stowaways prior to entering U.S. waters when they found evidence that some stowaways may be on board. The Master of the vessel notified the vessels agent (a local representative who assists with logistics and scheduling) who alerted the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office in San Juan. The Sea Islander departed from Rio Haina, Dominican Republic on Thursday.
