On a stormy evening in mid-November, a huge, abandoned cargo ship broke free of its moorings and slowly floated into the massive concrete bridge that carries cars across Brazil's Guanabara Bay to Rio de Janeiro.Brazil's navy said the 200-meter-long (660-ft.) Sao Luiz, a rust-spattered bulk carrier built in 1994, had been anchored in the bay for more than six years awaiting legal proceedings before it crashed into Latin America's longest over-water bridge. Brazilian Ferry Launched

AFAI Southern Shipyard and CoCo Yachts Holland announced that the first Urban Sprinter 2000, yard number ASA 042, was launched August 14, 2014. The Urban Sprinter 2000 was designed by CoCo Yachts Holland and built by AFAI Southern Shipyard in Guangzhou for SETRANS Rio de Janeiro. The ASA042, temporarily named 01, is the first vessel out of a series of seven. The final name of the vessel will be announced later, after the people of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói have given their suggestions and votes for the names of all vessels.

Terex Port Solutions at Sugarloaf Mountain

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) will supply Libra Terminais Rio S/A (Libra) with 12 Terex® rubber-tyred gantry cranes. They are to be delivered in the fall of 2014 to the Libra terminal in the Bay of Rio de Janeiro. The company operates ports in Rio and Santos and ispart of the Libra Group, a leading Brazilian logistics corporation. The cranes will be shipped to Rio, already assembled, from the TPS plant in Xiamen, PR China. TPS’ Brazilian distributor, Terminal Full Dealer (TFD), who facilitated the order, will be responsible for unloading, commissioning and hand-over on site. Hamworthy Supports Brazilian Offshore Oil & Gas Finds

Hamworthy Oil & Gas Systems was recently awarded a major contract by Brazilian shipyard Estaleiro Promar SA for the design and supply of cargo handling systems for eight liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers destined for operation by Transpetro, a subsidiary of Petrobras. The vessels will be designed by Hamworthy’s specialist naval architecture consultancy in Poland, along with the cargo tanks and cargo handling system. In 2007 the Oil & Gas Systems business secured an order for its regasification technology onboard the floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) Golar Winter. Located in Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro, the vessel has an important role in supplying gas to the Rio de Janeiro area.
