Dry Bulk: Heavy Rains Disrupt Shipping in Southeast Brazil

Heavy rainfall in southeastern Brazil has prompted miners including Vale SA to suspend some operations, they said on Monday, after downpours caused deadly floods in the northeast and threatened to delay harvests in the midwest.Rainfall is expected to remain heavy this week in most of top mining state Minas Gerais, after runoff closed roads and railways.The rains may also have contributed to the dramatic collapse of a canyon rock face in the state on Saturday, killing 10 people visiting a waterfall on boats.In the northeastern state of Bahia…

Bart Reynolds has been hired to take over as president of Seaspan Marine, the company announced today. Appointed to lead Seaspan’s Marine Division, Reynolds joins the company with more than 20 years of experience in leadership positions and senior management. In the last 15 years, Reynolds has held positions in the offshore supply boat business in the United States, West Africa, the Mediterranean and Latin America, most recently serving as Vice President, Americas at GulfMark Offshore Inc. Prior to that, he worked at Tidewater Marine LLC as Area Manager, U.S. Operations.

Petrobras Could save $18K mln between 2015 and 2021

Brazil's Petrobras estimates it will save costs for 18,000 million dollars between 2015 and 2021 findings with direct contracting to explore four oil surplus subsalt areas of the country, the company said Friday . The company expects investment required would be for about 26,000 million dollars to acquire areas, discover and define the potential surplus oil, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM). Attorney Stephen H. DonCarlos was appointed to the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority by the Harris County Mayors and Councils Association on Sept. 19. The Harris County Mayors and Councils Association is an organization representing 26 cities in Harris County. Port Commissioners serve two-year terms without pay. DonCarlos was named to the seat previously held by Jimmy Burke. Burke  had served as Port Commissioner since 1999. OSX 2 Leasing B.V., a subsidiary of the OSX Brasil S.A., entered into a facility agreement with a syndicate of international banks lead by ING, Itaú-BBA and Santander, related to the granting of a loan in the amount of US$ 850 million, pursuant to the contractual terms, for investment in the construction and installation of the FPSO OSX-2. The facility was initially underwritten by the three lead banks and thereafter syndicated globally.
