Kongsberg to Equip Four Offshore Wind CSOVs Being Built by Ulstein Verft

Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract with Ulstein Verft for the supply of an extensive equipment package for four wind farm commissioning service operation vessels (CSOV), two for Bernhard Schulte Offshore and two for J.P. Morgan Asset Management.The 90-meter vessels are being built at Ulstein Verft, to the ULSTEIN SX222 design. Milestones for Bernhard Schulte Offshore CSOVs

Two commissioning service operation vessels (CSOV) under construction for Germany-based Bernhard Schulte Offshore have reached milestones. The steel cutting and keel laying ceremonies for yno 321 and 320, respectively, were arranged at the Crist hull yard, Poland, on January 30, 2024.The two Ulstein-designed CSOVs are characterized by the TWIN X-STERN feature, implementing fore and aft main propeller units for excellent dynamic positioning characteristics.The hulls will be prepared at Crist before being towed to Ulstein Verft in Norway for the final phases

Ulstein Inks Deals with JP Morgan for Offshore Wind CSOV Newbuilds

Norwegian shipbuilder Ulstein Verft has signed contracts with J.P. Morgan Asset Management for offshore wind Construction Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) newbuilds.In 2023, Bernhard Schulte Offshore ordered the design and construction of two such vessels from Ulstein under a contract which included options for two plus two vessels.These options have been transferred to institutional investors advised by J.P. First Steel Cut for Bernhard Schulte Offshore's New CSOV

The steel-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday for the first of two TWIN X-STERN CSOV vessels for Bernhard Schulte Offshore in CRIST, Poland.The vessel's hull will take shape in Gdynia before being transported to Ulstein Verft for further outfitting, testing, and completion.The CSOVs will have a centrally located motion-compensated gangway for walk-to-work operations, a lift tower for the transfer of personnel and cargo, and the capacity to accommodate 132 people on board.Credit: UlsteinThe vessels, being built to support offshore wind operations, have been designed by Ulstein Design & Solutions

Bernhard Schulte Offshore Orders Two Ulstein CSOVs

Germany-based Bernhard Schulte Offshore has awarded Norway's Ulstein Verft a contract for the design and construction of two Commissioning Service Operation Vessels (CSOVs) of the ULSTEIN SX222 design. Windea Leibniz SOV Becomes CSOV after Upgrades by Ulstein

The Service Operation Vessel (SOV) “Windea Leibniz” on Saturday completed an extensive upgrade at Ulstein Shipyard in Norway. The vessel is managed by Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM)."With an increase of cabins from 60 to over 80, the vessel has transitioned from an SOV to a Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV),"  Additionally, the ship received one extra pedestal on the stern for Baltic Sea operations to complement the existing pedestal for North Sea use. Vessel Retrofits Could Accelerate U.S. Offshore Wind Development

The U.S. Administration’s strategy to fast-track offshore wind development is exciting for overseas shipbuilders and service providers in the field. Joint ventures meeting Jones Act requirements will support accelerating development. Some question, however, whether ambitious 2030 targets can actually be achieved.Ulstein group is a front runner. The Norwegian-based company has already provided the design for a rock installation vessel now under construction for a joint venture between Houston-based Great Lakes Dredge & Dock (GLDD) and Netherlands based Van Oord.

Bernhard Schulte Takes Delivery of Hybrid SOV from Ulstein

Norwegian Ulstein shipyard has delivered service operation vessel (SOV) Windea Jules Verne to Bernhard Schulte Offshore.The battery hybrid vessel will work at the Merkur offshore wind farm offshore Germany, where it will be operating for GE Renewable Energy.The vessel is based on the ULSTEIN SX195 design from Ulstein Design & Solutions AS. The Windea Jules Verne measures 93.4 meters in length and 18 meters in the beam. It has accommodation for 120 people. The vessel will serve as a ‘home away from home’ for offshore wind service engineers as well as the ship’s crew.

Bernhard Schulte Offshore Names New SOV

The new service operation vessel (SOV) of Bernhard Schulte, designed and built by Ulstein, will carry the name 'Windea Jules Verne' and work for GE Renewable Energy at the Merkur offshore wind project soon.The vessel received its name after one of the world’s most popular adventure writers, who was born in Nantes, France, where GE’s Offshore Wind business is located.The SOV has been designed and built by Ulstein for Bernhard Schulte Offshore. GE contracted Bernhard Schulte in July 2018 to provide an SOV for the 396MW project in Germany, after which the German company placed the order with Ulstein Verft.Ulstein began working on the SOV in September 2019.

BS Offshore SOV Readies for Sea Trials

A service operations vessel (SOV), owned and operated by Bernhard Schulte Offshore, is undergoing final tests at Ulstein Verft’s shipyard in Norway in preparation for sea trials."The Yard number 315 newbuild at Ulstein Verft, the Windea TBN for Bernhard Schulte, has been floated out from the outer dock and has now been positioned quayside. The vessel is now getting prepared for her first sea trial in early March," said a press release from the Norwegean shipbuilding company.Prior to the sea trial various tests will be carried out, including start-up of the propulsion system, testing of the tower and crane.The X-BOW and X-STERN offshore

BSO, MOW Ink US Offshore Wind JV

Ulstein Verft Builds Bernhard Schulte’s 3rd Vessel

Norwegian shipbuilder and ship designer Ulstein has started construction work on Bernhard Schulte Offshore’s third Ulstein-designed offshore wind vessel at Ulstein Verft.According a press note, initiate work tasks such as steel outfitting, mechanical outfitting, electrical steel work, piping and insulation, have now commenced, and cable pulling will start within a few days.Bernhard Schulte has previously (2016 and 2017) received two offshore wind vessels from Ulstein. The ship owner was the first to order and introduce to the market the novel X-STERN aft design, which improves the operational flexibility and work conditions for the ship’s crew at the offshore wind farms.

Shipbuilder Ulstein Bags SOV Order

Ulstein Verft has signed a shipbuilding contract with the Germany-based Bernhard Schulte for a service operation vessel (SOVs) of the ULSTEIN SX195 design type developed by Ulstein Design & Solutions. The vessel will support the maintenance work of GE Renewable Energy at the German wind farm Merkur Offshore.The project has been developed in cooperation with WINDEA Offshore, which is the Bernhard Schulte's affiliate for offshore wind projects."Ulstein Verft is a very reliable yard and we are eager to start working together with ULSTEIN again.

Windea Leibniz Delivered to Bernhard Schulte

The newly built wind farm service vessel Windea Leibniz was delivered from Ulstein Verft to Bernhard Schulte Offshore and ICBC Leasing on February 28, and named March 2 at a ceremony in Ulsteinvik, Norway. Beginning in April, the vessel will work at the Sandbank wind farm in the German Bight for Siemens Wind Power Service to help ensure energy production from the site’s 72 wind turbines. Windea Leibniz is the second wind farm service vessel in a series for Hamburg based shipping company Bernhard Schulte and the Beijing based financial company ICBC Leasing

First Wind Turbine Installed at Gemini Offshore Wind Park

The first wind turbine has been installed at the Gemini offshore wind park, off the coast of the Netherlands. The wind park will be completed in 2017, and will supply 785,000 households with renewable energy. The SOV, Yno 309, currently under construction at Ulstein Verft, will be servicing this park. On February 16, 2016, the first wind turbine was installed by Van Oord at the Gemini Offshore Wind Park, and it will soon begin producing electricity. In the coming months, a total of 150 wind turbines will be installed 85 kilometers off the coast of Groningen, the Netherlands.

Ulstein Verft's First Wind Service Vessel Launched

Shipbuilder Ulstein Verft has launched its first vessel within the renewable energy segment, and also the first with the newly-developed X-STERN hull line design. The service operation vessel (SOV) for the offshore wind industry is one of two being constructed for Bernhard Schulte Offshore, and will be working for Siemens servicing the Gemini offshore wind park offshore the Netherlands. The Ulstein Group has previously delivered ship designs for the renewable energy segment, but the Bernhard Schulte Offshore vessels are the first offshore wind service vessels to be constructed at Ulstein Verft. The ship design and shipbuilding contract on the two SOVs were signed in 2015.

Ulstein Group Records Operating Loss of $11.5M

In 2015, Ulstein Group recorded revenues of $279.4 million and an operating loss of $11.5 million. The business areas Design & Solutions and Power & Control both recorded profits. The downturn in the offshore sector and a tricky market has to be met with adaptation and innovation, according to CEO Gunvor Ulstein. ‘These are tough times. The group’s results for 2015 were weak as a result of lower utilization of capacity and the generally challenging market situation in our business areas. We believe 2016 will also be a challenging year. Ulstein Group has had a strong focus on supplying design, construction and systems solutions to the offshore market in recent years.

Successful SOV Sea Trial

Yno 309 from Ulstein Verft, the first of two Service Operation Vessels (SOV) for Bernhard Schulte Offshore, left the yard for sea trials on Tuesday, 7 June. The results so far are highly satisfactorily.   “We are underway in testing for speed and manoeuvring, and have commenced the tests for dynamic positioning. The vessel is performing splendidly,” reports the sea trial captain, Børge André Berg on Friday, 10 June. The vessel is due for delivery at the end of this month, and will be working at the Gemini offshore wind park on a charter for Siemens.

Ulstein Delivers for BS Offshore

Windea La Cour Goes to Work
