Steady Demand for 40m Crewboat

Strategic Marine’s Singapore branch is meeting a steady demand for its 40-m crewboat. With a beam of 7.5 m and a molded depth of 3.23 m, the aluminum vessels have a 2.3-m operating draft. Three heavy duty rated Cummins engines provide propulsion power – two KTA38 M3 wing engines each delivering 1350 at 1950 rpm and one KTA50 M2 center engine delivering 1800 hp at 1900 rpm. This combination gives the vessels a total of 4,500 hp that drive the boats at up to 28 knots with a 25-knot cruising speed. Gears are Twin Disc 6690sc and 6848sc. Capacities include 25,000 liters of water, 60,000 liters of fuel and up to 80 passengers. Accommodations are provided for ten crew and the vessels have a 90 square meter open deck capable of carrying two tons per square meter.

Malaysian Firm Takes Delivery

Syarikat Borcos Shipping, based in the city of Miri in Sarawak East Malaysia, has taken delivery of the first of two fast crew boats from Strategic Marine Singapore. A sister ship is scheduled for delivery to the firm in the late fall of 2005. Most of the aluminum for the 132 x 24.6 ft. (40.3 x 7.5-m) boat was cut in Australia and shipped in containers to the company shipyard in Singapore for assembly. Strategic Marine Singapore Pte. Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Australian parent company. The parent firm has delivered over 150 high speed aluminum vessels with 40 percent of their production going to the international market. The new vessel, Borcos Firdaus I, was built to specs by Southerly Design of Australia.
