Pacific Basin Equips 99 Ships with KVH Mini-VSAT

Dry bulk shipping company Pacific Basin Shipping Limited has deployed KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband solution on its entire fleet of 99 owned ships as part of its effort to modernize ship-shore communications. “Satellite communications continue to become more cost-effective over time as requirements rapidly grow for bandwidth and speed,” said Capt. Singtel, Inmarsat Join Forces to Boost Maritime Cyber Security

Singapore and London, 6 April 2016: Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) and Inmarsat (LSE:ISAT.L) have entered into a strategic partnership to enhance maritime cyber security using Trustwave’s Unified Threat Management (UTM) solution. Trustwave, the cyber security arm of Singtel, will provide the software based UTM service to be integrated with Inmarsat hardware onboard ships, to protect data and reduce cyber risk for maritime companies. The UTM service offers a suite of cyber security defences, such as advance firewall, anti-virus, intrusion prevention and web-filtering, which is backed by global round-the-clock support.

Inmarsat Launches Fleet Xpress

Inmarsat, a provider of global mobile satellite communications, has launched Fleet Xpress; the first globally available, high-speed broadband solution for maritime and offshore operators available from a single communications provider. Fleet Xpress aims to allow ship owners and operators to enhance business intelligence, improve operational efficiency and vessel performance, and provide a host of high-value, crew welfare benefits. Fleet Xpress will also empower third party application providers to enhance existing services to maritime customers, and to develop innovative new applications that will further drive operational efficiencies, ranging from real-time monitoring, remote diagnostics and telemedicine, to security and crew service management tools, among others.

RHL Hamburger Lloyd Selects KVH Broadband Service

To meet growing bandwidth usage and Internet demand onboard its tanker fleet, RHL Hamburger Lloyd Tanker GmbH & Co. KG, of Hamburg, Germany, an international shipping company known for managing sophisticated, innovative tankers, has chosen KVH Industries, Inc., for its mini-VSAT Broadband satellite communications solution. Twelve oil and chemical tankers will be outfitted with KVH’s TracPhone V7-IP satellite antenna systems in the next month, with a potential for 16 additional container vessels to receive KVH systems.

More than 100 USCG Vessels Install KVH mini-VSAT

A fast-response cutter of the U.S. Coast Guard is one of several classes of cutters with KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband systems onboard as the connectivity solution.

The ongoing maritime VSAT installations are part of KVH’s 10-year contract with the U.S. KVH Industries, Inc., said it has surpassed the 100-vessel mark in its 10-year contract to supply the next-generation satellite communications solution for the U.S. Coast Guard’s fleet of small cutters. To date, KVH’s TracPhone V7  systems have been deployed on 105 USCG vessels across eight different classes of cutters, and KVH’s mini-VSAT Broadband service has provided 29.2 terabytes of data and more than 835,000 Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) minutes.

The new Hybrid broadband solution is tailor-made for the shipping industry operating in the Nordic waters. By offering the Net1’s wireless broadband the vessels can get connected with high speed internet while they are close to the Scandinavian shores (50 – 60 nm) or in the ports, without any roaming issues. Once the vessels leave the reach of the wireless network the communication switches over to broadband via satellite, provided by Ancylus.

Major Shipping Company Upgrades to Iridium Pilot

Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:IRDM) announces that German shipping company Reederei Werner Bockstiegel has selected Iridium Pilot(TM) to upgrade its shipping fleet with broadband communications. Iridium, KVH Team on Broadband Solution

Triton Diving Uses Hughes Maritime Broadband

Triton Diving Services, LLC is keeping its crews safer and delivering more proficient diving services to offshore customers thanks to the Hughes Maritime Broadband solution from Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES). KVH to Acquire Virtek Communications AS

KVH Industries, Inc., (Nasdaq: KVHI) and Virtek Communications AS announced that they have entered into an agreement for KVH to acquire the software company. Virtek specializes in the development and deployment of software known as “middleware” that helps commercial fleets and vessel owners manage the data transmitted to and from their vessels over different satellite communications services, such as KVH’s own mini-VSAT Broadbandsm or Inmarsat FleetBroadband. “Virtek, its talented team of software engineers, and its proven middleware applications are an excellent fit with KVH and our rapidly expanding satellite communication business, most notably in the commercial marine market,” explained Martin Kits van Heyningen, KVH’s chief executive officer.

Ship Equip announced a contract with Varada Marine to install its SEVSAT (Ship Equip VSAT) maritime broadband solution on the company’s entire fleet of Offshore Supply Vessels. Varada Marine, a company with its head office in Kristiansand, Norway, has announced an extensive new building program at ABG Shipyard Ltd in India.
