Advent Technologies Partners with Alfa Laval to Explore Fuel Cell Uses

U.S. based fuel cell and hydrogen technology company Advent Technologies Holdings, Inc. announced it will collaborate with Alfa Laval, a global provider of heat transfer, separation, and fluid handling products, on a project to explore applications of Advent’s methanol-powered high-temperature proton exchange membrane (HT-PEM) fuel cells in the marine industry.Funded by the Danish Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP), the project is a joint effort between Advent, Alfa Laval and a group of Danish shipowners.

California Environmental Regulations Outpacing U.S. Regulations

The State of California is proving to be an environmental minefield for ports and ship operators as various environment groups step up pressure for more legislation and regulation, and with a stranded woodchip carrier now leaking oil on an Oregon beach, other West Coast states are now studying Califronia's concerns. Cummins Westport Obtains $760,000 in DOE Funding

Cummins Westport Inc., a joint venture of Cummins Inc. (of Columbus, Indiana, and Westport Innovations Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia, announced today that it won $760,000 (US$477,000) in funding to improve heavy-duty vehicle fuel pump and storage technology for liquefied natural gas (LNG). The financial assistance award was provided by the U.S. Department of Energy's Chicago Operations Office in cooperation with DOE's Office of Transportation Technology and Brookhaven National Laboratory. The funding is intended to support the expanded use of LNG for heavy-duty trucks and buses and lessen U.S. dependency on imported oil.
