Conrad Shipyard Awarded Contract by Power Engineering

Conrad Shipyard of Morgan City, Louisiana has been awarded a contract by Power Engineering Construction Company of Alameda, California to build several components for the Water Emergency Transportation Authority’s (WETA) San Francisco Ferry Expansion Project. Construction will be completed at Conrad’s Orange, Texas shipyard. Johnny Conrad, Chairman, President and CEO made the announcement: “This new business is in addition to a barge that we currently have under construction for Power Engineering Construction and we appreciate their continued confidence.

Wärtsilä AQUARIUS BWMS LPG Carrier Retrofit

Wärtsilä contracted to retrofit its AQUARIUS UV ballast water management system for the Marola, a 37,000 cbm fully-refrigerated Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vessel of the Carbofin SPA, Italy fleet. The retrofitting for the Marola will take place in autumn 2013 when the ship is dry docked. The vessel will operate in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and South American waters. By virtue of its design, the Wärtsilä AQUARIUS UV ballast water management system allows ease of installation for both retrofit and new build applications.

Seakeeper Gyros Tested on Wind Support Vessels

Continuing its aggressive commercial marine growth, gyro stabilizer manufacturer Seakeeper recently shipped M21000 units for testing with Hvide Sande Skib & Baadebyggeri (HSSB). The gyros will be used aboard 25m and 34m monohull wind farm support vessels for DONG Energy, a Danish leader in offshore wind farm development and construction. In a sector previously dominated by catamarans, Seakeeper gyros now create exciting opportunities for monohulls and builders such as HSSB in wind farm support segments.
