Hyundai Mipo Building Hybrid RoRo Ships for CLdN

Wärtsilä and logistics provider CLdN have jointly developed an innovative hybrid design for two new RoRo vessels. The propulsion arrangement is such that the ships can operate as gas/diesel-mechanical vessel now, or in the future as gas/diesel-electric vessel. The vessels are being built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyards in Korea.The Wärtsilä hybrid system includes Energy Storage Systems, two large PTO/PTI generators and electric motors, multidrive converters, and the Wärtsilä Energy Management System that controls and optimizes the hybrid operations.

Portico Adds New Equipments

Portico Shipping, the international cargo terminal in Portsmouth, UK, is taking delivery of by 4 x Terberg TT223 two wheel drive Terminal tractors in March 2020.These units will be supplied with rotating seats to facilitate improved driver comfort and operational efficiencies.This equipment, including the Seacom trailers, is being supplied by Terberg DTS UK, which is the UK arm of the Terberg Group.Established in 1869, they specialize in building terminal, RoRo and yard tractors and related vehicles. German Shipyard FSG Re-organizes Top Management

Current Chief Technology Officer Frank Bywater will be joined by Markus Bartsch as new Chief Executive Officer. Current CEO Peter Sierk will take over the management of FSG parent company NSH (Nord- deutsche Schiffbau-Holding) and as a result take responsibility for overall strategy as Chairman at FSG. “Over the past two years we have seen how the switch from series to special ship buil- ding at our yard has brought with it an enormous new set of demands”, says Peter Sierk. “Contracts are getting more complex and processes more multi-layered. If we now say that our 750 employees have to adapt and optimise then it stands to reason of course that the same has to apply to the management”.

IHC Caland Wins Multiple Orders

IHC Caland NV won orders worth about $141.9 million. The orders include building a RoRo ferry for a French client, an offshore support vessel for a British firm, a tug for a Dutch customer and two river cruise ships for Viking River Cruises. "These new orders will take up a substantial part of the capacity at the group's shipyards well into 2002," IHC Caland said. It added that its offshore division had been ordered by a large international oil company to design a floating production and storage unit that can be used off West Africa and Brazil. It did not identify the client. IHC's offshore division also expects to win another major order from an international oil group. The company said it would give further information on this at a later date.

Flensburger Wins Canadian Ferry Contract

A contract to build three double-ended RoRo Ferries for the Canadian Shipping Company British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. has been won by Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft. The total value of the contracts is approximately $325 million Canadian. The new ships are called “Super C-class” type. BC Ferries´ specification for the new Super C-class vessels, which are planned to operate on BC Ferries´ Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay, and Swartz Bay-Tsawwassen routes, are for 160 m vessels that can accommodate 370 vehicles and up to 1,650 passengers.
