Singtel to Provide VSAT for 33 PIL Containerships

Singapore based shipping company Pacific International Lines (PIL) is installing satellite communication, or VSAT, on its entire fleet as part of its digitalization efforts to enhance seafarer wellbeing and improve productivity on board its ships. Communications technology group Singtel said it is one of the partners providing PIL with communications and cybersecurity solutions for 33 vessels in PIL’s fleet.“As a progressive company, PIL is constantly looking for ways to achieve business excellence and optimize operational efficiency.

VSAT Communications Upgrade

Marlink bundles WaveCall Ku-band, Inmarsat FleetBroadband and XChange for seamless communications and full control on board De Poli Tankers. Marlink has completed a series of new VSAT installations aboard De Poli Tankers BV vessels. The recent communications upgrade project was carried out in close co-operation with Maritime Performances BV and started with the installation of Marlink WaveCall Ku-band VSAT services aboard the chemical tanker Miro D. Based near Rotterdam, De Poli Tankers BV is the commercial operator of a fleet of six sophisticated IMO 2 chemical tankers, two LPG tankers and one Ice classed 1A chemical/ethylene tanker. Vessel management is the responsibility of Maritime Performances BV, De Poli's in-house affiliate.

Globe Wireless Acquires Zynetix

Globe Wireless has acquired Zynetix, a UK-based company specializing in GSM solutions. Frank Coles President & CEO of Globe Wireless said, “Mariners will use personal GSM handsets without paying premiums for that convenience. By seamlessly blending IP satellite systems such as FleetBroadband, OpenPort and VSAT with the Zynetix technology, Globe has created the perfect maritime GSM solution. Ian Taylor, CEO of Zynetix commented, “We are delighted to join Globe Wireless at this exciting time in the maritime communications market. Specifically it enables greater focus and innovation in Zynetix’s two strategic business areas. This will accelerate the deployment of GSM on merchant ships, exclusively through Globe Wireless, making GSM a base-level expectation for on-board communications.

Xantic and Turbo SI Offer New Service

Xantic has announced the signing of a contract with Turbo Service International Limited to provide both airtime and a custom-made combination of value added services. This bundled solution is set to pave the way for shipowners to see the benefits of the internet on board ship by offering them single click access to Turbo's "lite" diagnostic webtool via Inmarsat-A, -B, mini-M and Fleet. No additional software is required on board the vessel. Moreover, by offering its customers an even more efficient turbocharger operation, Turbo SI will further improve the safety and reliability of vessels at sea. Turbo SI has offices in Southampton (UK), Antwerp (Belgium), Dubai and Hong Kong, with more expected to be opened in the near future.
