MacDuff Ship Design Reports Busy Autumn

Scotland based MacDuff Ship Design reports it has had another busy summer and autumn with the delivery of a number of new vessels, work continuing on existing contracts and several new design contracts won. Alongside this has seen the continuation of the companies bureau work in naval architectural consultancy and the steady expansion of MacDuff Marine Surveyors. A new 25.5m Aquaculture Support Vessel has entered service on the West Coast of Scotland having been delivered in September 2017 to owners Inverlussa Marine Services.

North River Boats Thrives in a Challenging Build Market

North River Boats’ formula for success: anchored in a diverse portfolio and customer base. Tucked away in Roseburg, Ore., North River Boats began simply enough in 1974 by building jet powered boats to run shallow, technical white water rivers. Over time, the company also developed a solid reputation for jet boat designs. Later, as sport fishing regulations, seasons, and species evolved, North River expanded to build deep vee outboard powered recreational boats to fish larger rivers, estuaries and the ocean. The firm is also known for another reason: its diversified production of hulls, delivered to an equally wide range of clients, both domestic and foreign.

Burger Boat Launches Wendella Passenger Vessel

Burger Boat Company announced the launch of P/V Lucia, an 89-foot steel passenger vessel for Wendella Sightseeing Company, Inc. Lucia, designed by Timothy Graul Marine Design of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., was launched into the Manitowoc River Friday, May 29 with her owners, the Burger staff and the Manitowoc community in attendance. Lucia is styled after other vessels in Wendella's fleet and will be used for its Combined Lake and River Tour, the Chicago River Architecture Tour, specialty cruises and private events.

Damen Tugs, Dredger for Cooperativa De TrabajosPortuariosLimitada De San Martín

Argentinian company Cooperativa De TrabajosPortuariosLimitadade San Martín signed a contract forthe delivery of two Damen ASD 2810 tugs and one Cutter Section Dredger 500. The twovessels and dredgerare to be used in the Argentinian terminal region around Rosario on the Paraná river for towing, mooring, fire-fighting and dredging operations. The equipment is scheduled to be delivered in Q3 2015. Alex Westendarp Knol, Damen Area Manager South-America, represented the Damen Shipyards Group during the official contract signing that was held in San Martín on  bMay 19th 2015. The ASD tugs, which will be built at Damen Shipyard Galati in Romania, are both classed under Lloyd’s Register, equipped with Fire Fighting1,which deliversa water spray of 2,400m3/hr.

Burger Boat Delivers R/V Arcticus

Burger Boat Company delivered the R/V Arcticus, a 78-foot research vessel for the United States Geological Survey (USGS), on Friday, October 17, 2014. The Arcticus replaces the 38-year-old R/V Grayling and brings the USGS Great Lakes Science Center (GLSC) large vessel fleet up-to-date. The Arcticus will be stationed at the USGS base in Cheboygan, Michigan and incorporates modern marine standards and state-of-the-art technology to more safely and effectively conduct fisheries research.

New Research Vessel Delivered on the Great Lakes

The new oceanographic research and fisheries assessment vessel, Arcticus, completed her sea trials and was delivered to the U.S. Geological Survey's Great Lakes Science Center on October 17. The Arcticus, designed by JMS Naval Architects (JMS) and constructed at Burger Boat Company, replaces the R/V Grayling and becomes the newest member of a five-vessel fleet owned and operated by the Great Lakes Science Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. JMS completed the concept and contract design and provided all technical representation at the shipyard during construction.

He has worked as President and CEO in Heil Trailer International, as Vice President & General Manager in Komatsu North America, Construction Division, and as Executive Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Customer Service at Jacobsen, a Textron Company. "Greg Hewitt will be focusing on the development of our sales and service and customer interfaces in the Americas region, with the target to increase Kalmar's market share in the region. The continued maturation of Offshore Service Vessel design is embodied in recent contracts and deliveries. Ulstein Verft subsea newbuild Island Performer was built for Island Offshore to be a flexible, RLWI/IMR vessel, destined to serve its first five years for FTO in the Gulf of Mexico. “The vessel is customized to suit the scope of work in the FTO contract, in which RLWI (Riser-less Light Well Intervention) and IMR (Inspection/Maintenance/Repair) are the main tasks. She is able to perform operations at depths down to 3,000m,” said Håvard Ulstein, Managing Director, Island Offshore.

Burger Boat Delivers Chicago Passenger Vessel

Burger Boat Company announced the delivery of a 98-foot steel passenger vessel to Chicago's First Lady Cruises in Chicago. The vessel, Chicago’s Classic Lady, was designed by Seacraft Design, LLC of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc. Chicago’s Classic Lady departed the Burger shipyard Saturday afternoon, May 10, 2014, on her delivery voyage to the Chicago waterfront, arriving early the next morning. Built by Burger Boat Company of Manitowoc, Wisc., Chicago’s Classic Lady is powered by two Caterpillar C12 main engines and has two Caterpillar C4.4 generators.

New Fireboats Headed to Port of Long Beach

Robert Allan Ltd. announced that it was selected to be the Owner’s Naval Architect for the design and construction of two new fireboats for the Port of Long Beach. Custom designed for service in the U.S. port, the fireboats will be operated by the Long Beach Fire Department and will be amongst the largest fireboats in North America. Robert Allan Ltd.’s design work began in 2011, with a series of kick-off meetings with the Port of Long Beach and the Long Beach Fire Department to establish the Statement of Requirements for the new vessels.

DamenFiFi/Police Patrol Boat Delivered

Following trials, the new 23.9m Damen Fire Fighting/Police Patrol vessel 'Bremen 1' has been handed over to its new owner the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen. It will be used jointly by Police and Fire departments in Bremen, Germany, so it has been painted in two colours red and blue. Under emergency call out the vessel can reach speeds of 40 km/hr with its triple Caterpillar engines driving triple UltraJet High Thrust Waterjets via ZF500 gearboxes. UltraJet waterjets were chosen for their high thrust performance required during fire fighting operations and for towing purposes.

Motor yacht “Coregonus” Launched – A 60’ Research Vessel by Burger Burger Boat Company

Manitowoc, Wisconsin, U.S.A. – April 8, 2011 Burger Boat Company launches the R/V Coregonus, a 60’ Research Vessel for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. R/V Coregonus is replacing the R/V Barney Devine, a steel Fishing Tug built by Burger in 1937. SeaCraft Design in Sturgeon Bay, WI designed the R/V Coregonus for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to meet the demanding requirements of the department. Powered by twin Caterpillar C12 diesel engines, the all welded aluminum R/V Coregonus will provide a cruising speed of 20 knots.

Burger Boat Contract for Steel Passenger Vessel

Burger Boat Company has received a contract for the construction of Chicago’s Leading Lady, a 98-ft steel passenger vessel, for Chicago’s First Lady Cruises, Chicago, Ill. Chicago’s Leading Lady is styled after the 1920s luxury cruising yachts such as the former Presidential yacht Sequoia. Chicago’s First Lady Cruises will use the vessel for upscale private parties, wedding rehearsal dinners and corporate events, as well as, serve as an official vessel for the Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise. The vessel was designed by Seacraft Design LLC, Sturgeon Bay, Wis.

Theriault & Son Custom Fire/Rescue Vessel

When Portland, Maine needed an aluminum fire/rescue boat, the city brought on builder A.F. Theriault & Son. The resulting 65-ft City of Portland features a medical bay identical to land-based ambulances, multiple water cannons and a complete Delta T ventilation system. "We offer Delta T Systems as optional equipment, but they have such a great reputation that many architects will incorporate them into their designs," said Theriault & Son VP of production Graham Oakley. Blount Contract for Chicago Tour Boat Company

Blount Boats, Inc. has signed a contract with Wendella Sightseeing Company, Inc. to construct an 89 by 30-ft steel excursion vessel. This vessel will be a sister ship to the M/V Wendella (Hull 320) built by the Blount shipyard in 2007. The vessel was designed by Timothy Graul Marine Design and will operate in the Chicago area. The 300 passenger vessel will be powered by twin screw C12 Caterpillar engines, 385hp at 1,800 rpm with ZF gears. Delivery for Hull #330 is scheduled for May 2010 via the Erie Canal in time for the 75th anniversary celebration of Wendella Sightseeing Company. Wendella Sightseeing, Chicago’s original boat tour company has been operating since 1935.

RET NV Orders Damen Fast Ferry 3007

RET and Damen have signed a contract for a Damen Fast Ferry 3007. The above acquisition by RET is the result of having been awarded the new ferry service in the Port of Rotterdam, between Hoek van Holland, Maeslantkering and Europoort/ Maasvlakte. This service will commence on 1st March, 2008 and is destined to carry commuters, and other interested passengers, together with their bicycles, across the busy Nieuwe Waterweg. The low wash all-aluminum vessel will be equipped with two Caterpillar C12 engines, propeller driven to reach a speed of 22 knots.

RoRo Ferry Delivered

Toronto Port Authority recently took delivery of a new 100ft steel car/passenger Ro-Ro ferry. Hike Metal Products Ltd. won the contract in 2006 amid local competition. The new car ferry is part of a re-structuring program by the Toronto Port Authority to revitalize the City of Toronto Island Airport which included the repair of slips, two new two-level terminals and the new two-level 100 passenger / 15 vehicle car ferry. The new ferry, rendering an older vessel obsolete, is powered by twin caterpillar C12, developing 450HP at 1880 rpm which drive Ulstein 360degree drive legs at each end and on center line. Two 45KW generators provide electrical power while underway for ship’s services and heat (being the main load ).
