Japan Honors Autonomous Ship Initiative at Innovation Awards

An autonomous ship initiative by a group of companies in Japan was recognized by Japan’s Cabinet Office at Fifth Japan Open Innovation Prize Ceremony on Wednesday.The companies receiving recognition are NYK and NYK Group companies Japan Marine Science Inc., MTI Co. Ltd., and Kinkai Yusen Kaisha Ltd.The received Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Award at a ceremony hosted by Japan’s Cabinet Office. HST Marine's Second Hybrid-Electric CTV Welcomed by British Maritime Leaders

Offshore crew transfer firm HST Marine has welcomed the arrival of its new UK-built hybrid-electric crew transfer vessel (CTV), HST Frances.The ceremony was attended by Nusrat Ghani MP, UK Minister of State (Dept. for Business and Trade and the Cabinet Office) and senior British maritime industry leaders.HST Frances is HST Marine’s second hybrid electric CTV. The 25-meter vessels can carry 12-24 industrial personnel, and its hybrid electric propulsion system cuts fuel consumption by 30% compared to similar CTVs powered by diesel engines, the company, owned by Purus Marine, said Friday.

Choked Port Won't Cancel Christmas, Britain Says

Britain said on Wednesday that people should buy normally for Christmas and there would be no shortage of gifts after shipping containers carrying toys and electrical goods were diverted from the country’s biggest port because it was full.Maersk, the world’s largest container shipping company, has diverted some vessels from Felixstowe port in eastern England because a lack of truck drivers means there is nowhere left to stack containers at the port.“I’m confident that people will be able to get their toys for Christmas,” Conservative Party co-Chairman Oliver Dowden told Sky.

Ocean Geo-Frontier Tallies Survey Contract

New joint venture company Ocean Geo-Frontier (OGF) on Monday signed a consignment service agreement with Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) for geophysical surveys to be conducted by a three-dimensional geophysical survey vessel.OGF was established in December 2018 to meet an expected demand increase for offshore surveys after Japan’s Cabinet Office approved the Third Basic Plan on Ocean Policy for the development of domestic resources, including oil and gas

Cargill, MV Cargo to Build Grain Terminal in Ukraine

Cargill and MV Cargo formalized their intention to construct a grain terminal in the port of Yuzhny on the Black Sea coast in Ukraine by signing a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA). The signing ceremony was held in Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk‘s cabinet office in the presence of the U.S Ambassador to Ukraine and senior Ukrainian government officials. “Ukraine is already one of the world’s great agricultural producers, but it should be an agricultural superpower,” said U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey R. Pyatt during the ceremony. “I think I have a pretty clear idea of what American agricultural companies are now looking for,” he said.

U.K. Shipping Minister Commits to Maritime Industry

U.K. Shipping minister says he is committed to putting the £31.7-billion shipping industry center-stage. Stephen Hammond, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport, speaking at a Maritime London/Shipping Professional Network London event underlined the government’s commitment to the U.K.’s maritime industry and declared its importance to Britain’s economic growth. Contributing £13.8bn to the U.K. economy directly and enabling a further £17.9 billionn, the U.K.’s maritime industry accounts for 2.1% of the entire economy, supports one in every 50 jobs and creates £8.5 billion for the U.K. Exchequer. Rolls-Royce Appoint Ian Davis Chairman

Rolls-Royce announce that Ian Davis will succeed Sir Simon Robertson as Chairman. Mr. Davis will join the Board as a non-executive Director on 1 March 2013 and take over from Sir Simon at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting on 2 May 2013. Ian Davis spent more than thirty years with McKinsey & Company, including six as Chairman and Worldwide Managing Director. He serves, as a non-executive Director, on the Boards of BP and Johnson & Johnson and is a non-executive member of the Cabinet Office Board.
