Four Petrobras Platforms Halt Output Due to Oil Leak
Four Petrobras oil platforms off the northeast coast of Brazil have halted production after a leak of about 7,000 liters of oil was detected coming from a pipeline linking them, a local oil workers union head said on Friday. Brazil's oil regulator, ANP, confirmed the leak in the Camorim field, 16 kilometers (10 miles) off the coast of the city of Aracajú, and said it had already been contained by Petrobras. The director of the Sindipetro oil workers union for Alagoas/Sergipe Basin, Stoessel Chagas, said the leak was detected coming from a pipeline linking the PCM-5 and PCM-6 production platforms of Petroleo Brasileiro SA, as Petrobras is officially known. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Tognum & Rolls Royce Cooperate on Two Power, Propulsion, Contracts
The first delivery comprises twelve MTU 16V 4000 M63 engines destined for Camorim, the Brazilian shipping company. Twin MTU engines will be used to power Rolls-Royce propeller-rudder systems on a total of six tug boats. Each engine in this order delivers power of 2,000kW, and its value lies at some three million euros to Tognum. The tug vessels will mainly be used in offshore oil production operations carried out by Petrobas, the petroleum producer in Rio de Janeiro/Macae. The second order is from Fjellstrand, the Norwegian shipyard. Four marine gensets based on MTU 16V 4000 M23S engines, each with a power output of 1,840kW, will be used to propel a multi-purpose offshore vessel operated by Norside Supporter AS. The engines back up the Rolls-Royce propellers and automation system.
Volvo Penta Delivers Engines For New Tugboats
Two oceangoing tugboats were recently delivered in Brazil, each fitted with three 49-liter propulsion engines from Volvo Penta. Normal duties for these vessels will include traditional tugboat operations in the Rio de Janeiro harbor area, the towing of oilrigs between different sites, or into port, cargo-barge towing and supply services for customers in the substantial Brazilian offshore industry. Both of the vessels are fitted with three Volvo Penta 12-cylinder V-engines, each with 1,197 hp, direct fuel injection, turbo and charge-air cooling. The D49MS propulsion engines are rated for heavy, continuous operation. The vessels were built by Estaleiro Ilha S.A. in Rio de Janeiro.
