Sener Completes Basic Engineering for Two Ice-Class Vessels with Carbon Capture

Source: Sener

Spain-based Sener has developed the conceptual and basic engineering of two new ice-class vessels equipped with carbon capture systems for the German company Grona Shipping. The two general cargo vessels are 6,000 and 9,100 tons respectively. Both vessels have an LNG propulsion system and incorporate CO2 capture systems, which can be located on top of the LNG tanks or as structural tanks between the two cargo holds. The design conceived by Sener contemplates optimized lines that will help to reduce the towing resistance of the vessels…

Classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) said it has awarded approval in principle (AIP) to Rotoboost, a Nordic hydrogen production company, for its pre-combustion Carbon Capture System (CCS) Rotobox. Rotobox uses thermocatalytic decomposition process (TCD) onboard marine vessels, where part of the natural gas fuel supply is converted into hydrogen and graphite with a liquid catalyst. The TCD process significantly reduces CO2 emissions, particulate matter and methane slip by producing hydrogen while capturing carbon in its solid form.

LA, Long Beach Ports Unveil Strategies to Cut GHG

Aggressively deploying zero and near-zero emission trucks and cargo-handling equipment and expanding programs that reduce ship emissions are among the core strategies the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are proposing for the next version of San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP). Proposals also focus on freight infrastructure investment, innovation and technology to improve supply chain efficiency, comprehensive energy planning, and increased advocacy for stricter emissions standards and government incentives to help pay for projects that advance testing and commercialization of zero and near-zero emission vehicles. The updated CAAP provides one of California’s first opportunities to implement the vision laid out in the State’s Sustainable Freight Action Plan.
