Wärtsilä to Supply Cargo Handling System for Scale Gas’ LNG Bunkering Vessel

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, part of technology group Wärtsilä, has signed a contract for the supply of cargo handling system for a new 12,500 m3 LNG bunkering vessel being built for Spanish shipowner Scale Gas, a subsidiary of Enagás.The order has been placed by the yard building the vessel, Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering, and was booked by Wärtsilä in the first quarter of 2024.The vessel is co-financed from the Support for Sustainable and Digital Transport Programme…

Partners Collaborate on Ammonia Bunker Vessel Technology

Azane Fuel Solutions and ammonia-to-power provider Amogy have signed an MoU to explore the feasibility of using Amogy’s technology on board an Azane bunker vessel concept.The collaboration will explore the technical and commercial feasibility of the bunker vessel and also of an Azane ammonia fuel feeder solution integrated into the Amogy power system.Azane is a Norway based company developing the world’s first ammonia bunkering terminal. The company has also developed an ammonia fuel bunker vessel concept with a complete ammonia cargo handling system.

Sturgeon Bay, Wis. shipbuilder Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding (FBS) held a christening ceremony for recently constructed liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker barge Clean Everglades.The vessel is the sister ship to the LNG barge, Clean Canaveral, which was delivered by FBS two years ago and has made more than 65 successful LNG bunker deliveries. TGE Marine Receives Order for LCO2 Cargo Handling System

TGE Marine has received an order from the Chinese shipyard Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Offshore for the design and supply of a cargo handling system for a 7,500m³ liquified CO2 (LCO2) carrier.The vessel is the third iteration of the series TGE Marine has been part of for the Norwegian consortium Northern Lights JV.The ships are part of the “Longship project”, a Norwegian state-founded effort to de-carbonize large emitters in Norway. Korean Register (KR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with K Shipbuilding, Sunbo Industries and Dongsung Finetec to jointly develop a 12,000cbm liquefied CO2 (LCO2) carrier design during Gastech 2023 in Singapore.The companies believe that as carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technologies become increasingly important in decarbonization policies, the demand for LCO2 carriers to transport captured CO2 by sea is expected to grow significantly.K Shipbuilding will lead the development and design optimization of a medium-pressure LCO2 carrier with a design pressure of 19 bar.

ClassNK Grants AIP for GTT's LH2 Carrier Cargo Systems

Furetank Orders Two More Dual-fuel Tankers

Sweden-based Furetank announced it has signed a contract for two more dual-fuel tankers. The two 17,999 dwt vessels are scheduled to be delivered from the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou in fall 2024 and spring 2025.The order marks the fifth and sixth sister ships ordered in Furetank's Vinga series this year. Sweden-based Furetank said it has signed a contract for a new dual-fuel tanker to be built by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou for scheduled delivery in July 2024. The deal includes an option for additional vessels.The 17,999 dwt vessel will be number 11 in the Vinga series of sister vessels designed with special focus on minimum environmental impact. Furetank owns four of the vessels already delivered and commercially operates all.The Vinga vessels all have dual-fuel capability and run on LNG/LBG.

Crowley LNG Bunker Barge to Sport TGE Marine Gas Controls, Tanks

TGE Marine Gas Engineering GmbH (TGE Marine) inked a deal for a 12,000 cu. m. Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering barge with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding for the design and supply of the cargo handling system including two 6,000 cu. m. bilobe Type C tanks designed to transport LNG at -163°C.The barge will be built by Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding for Crowley and operate under a long-term charter with Shell NA LNG, LLC. The 12,000 m3 barge will be the largest of its kind built in the United States so far and is expected to start operations along the US East Coast in 2024.

Wärtsilä said it completed delivery of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel supply system (LFSS) to 15 very large gas carrier (VLGC) vessels owned and operated by BW LPG, which has the world’s largest fleet of VLGC vessels.BW LPG ordered the first four of these 15 systems in 2018, immediately following Wärtsilä’s full-scale testing of a full-sized two-stroke marine engine operating with LPG fuel. This was the world’s first such testing protocol, and the performance attained was seen as exceeding expectations.

Alfa Laval Sees Growing Orders for FCM LPG Fuel Supply Systems

Alfa Laval reports it is experiencing increased demand for solutions related to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as fuel, having seen notable orders for the Alfa Laval FCM LPG in recent months as the marine industry focuses on decarbonization. The low-flashpoint fuel supply system (LFSS) that can work seamlessly with LPG cargo handling systems.Given its lower CO2 footprint compared to traditional marine fuels, LPG is a logical step in decarbonizing the vessels that transport it, Alfa Laval said.

Partners Aim to Develop Low Pressure Solutions for CO2 Shipping

Energy companies Equinor, Shell, TotalEnergies, Gassco and classification society DNV have commenced a new joint industry project (JIP) to develop low-pressure solutions for the transportation of CO2 by ships. The CETO (CO2 Efficient Transport via Ocean) JIP will carry out the technology qualification of a low-pressure ship design and identify solutions to scale CO2 transportation volume, while reducing the associated risks, to support the development of opportunities in CCS. CETO is funded by the project partners and GASSNOVA through the CLIMIT program and is expected to be completed in 2023.

GTT Wins First LNG Tank Design Order from Jiangnan

GTT announced it received in July an order from the Chinese Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. for the cargo handling system and tank design of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier on behalf of the Chinese ship-owner JOVO.This is GTT’s first order for a membrane LNG carrier from Jiangnan, making the shipyard the second Chinese LNG carrier yard to construct a vessel with GTT technology.GTT will design the tanks of the vessel with a cargo capacity 79,800 cubic meters. The vessel will be fitted with the GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system and will be the first LNG carrier built in China to be fitted with the Mark III technology family.The vessel will be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2023.
