Reducing Onboard Water Consumption

Many ship lines, including privately and government-owned ferry systems, have become members of Green Marine. The goal of this organization is to help these carriers reduce their environmental footprint, with an emphasis on 12 key performance indicators. These key performance indicators include taking steps to reduce fuel emissions, which contribute to greenhouse gases; lowering energy consumption, both onboard and at land office locations; developing an array of recycling programs, including recycling for beverage containers, cardboard, newsprint, wood, metals, etc.; taking significant steps to reduce water consumption—onboard vessels and at terminals.

OceanSaver BWTS Earns USCG Approval

OceanSaver said it has received the final type approval certificate from U.S. Coast Guard as the first ballast water treatment system (BWTS) supplier utilizing electrochlorination. This means that a USCG type approved system is now available for medium and large vessels like LR1s, VLCCs and large gas carriers. U.S. regulations require all vessels trading in U.S. waters to treat ballast water with USCG type approved ballast water treatment system before discharge. ALGAE-X Markets Fuel Treatment Systems

Algae-X International has acquired the exclusive North and South American representation for the patented product line of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) Treatment equipment and Water In Diesel Emulsion (WIDE) technology. This CD92 product line is manufactured by SIT/Nordika GmbH in Germany. The SIT Homogenization and Emulsification equipment is based on technology for the treatment of heavy fuel oil, waste oil, & diesel fuel. It is designed to eliminates sludge and waste oil disposal, thus dramatically lowering the total fuel oil budget. Processing Heavy Fuel Oil of 180 to 1, 000 cSt or more with the CD92 delivers fuel droplets smaller than 3 micron. This tremendously improves filterability and combustion efficiency. Ultimately the size of the fuel droplet determines combustion efficiency.
