RINA Performs Design Appraisal for CNG Power Plant

International classification and verification company RINA Services has performed the design approval for the world's largest Compressed Natural Gas storage plant in Grati, Indonesia. The CNG will feed the local 300 MW power plant. The plant, operated by Indonesia’s PT PLN (Persero), burns up to 15 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas from the CNG storage, driving three gas turbines. Adding a CNG plant to the existing power station tackles the issue of peak load demand. The CNG storage takes in pipeline gas when the plant is not at full capacity.

Now the Carousel Ship

Technical proposals for the shipment of natural gas under compression rather than in the refrigerated, liquefied state have surfaced from time to time over the years, but have received a lukewarm response from the marine industry. The considerable cost of the shipboard containment methodology has been a major stumbling block. Now, a Canadian engineering contractor has come up with an altogether more economic solution to the cargo carrying needs of compressed natural gas (CNG), and pitched at relatively short-distance sea transport applications. Instead of the prohibitively expensive pressure bottles that have earlier been central to CNG transport concepts…

HHI Partners With EnerSea Transport

EnerSea Transport LLC (EnerSea) and Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI) are partnering together to complete vessel design and obtain 'class approval in principle' certification for EnerSea's breakthrough VOTRANS(TM) compressed natural gas (CNG) marine transport vessels. Upon completion of that process, HHI will build the first VOTRANS fleet of vessels for EnerSea's transport services projects. "The joining of forces between EnerSea and Hyundai is a defining moment in the commercialization of CNG marine transport," stated Paul Britton, EnerSea's Managing Director. "This alliance will bring together one of the world's premier shipbuilders with the industry's most advanced CNG technology. Hyundai's D.Y.
