Hunt for Russian Submarine near Scotland
The British, French and Canadians are searching the seas off Scotland for a Russian submarine detected off the northern coast 10 days ago, reports the Australian. French patrol planes are scouring the seas off Scotland for a Russian submarine after Britain was forced to call on allies for help because it has scrapped its own sub-hunting aircraft. BBC says that an RAF plane is "conducting activity" off the Scottish coast, the Ministry of Defence says, amid reports of a Russian submarine being spotted in the area. A Royal Navy Frigate and submarine are also thought to be involved in the search, along with Canadian and French maritime patrol aircraft. The Telegraph reports the French plane has searched for the submarine for at least 10 days.
Cable Trackers Help Diving Companies and Military
Trying to locate subsea power and communications cables has always been a difficult job. Regulations require cables be buried from several feet to several meters under the ocean bottom to prevent snagging by boat anchors and fishing trawls. The amount of overburden on a cable often means it’s too deep to be located with conventional metal detection equipment. The device that has proved most effective in finding them is a cable tracker. This system has two parts, a signal injector and a probe. The injector is attached to the shore end of a line and induces a signal into one of the conductors.

1952-When SS Foundation Star sent a distress signal that she was in rough seas and in danger of breaking in half, four Coast Guard vessels and three commercial vessels proceed to her assistance and rescued the crew before the ship broke apart and sank. 2000-LCDR Daniel C. Burbank became the second Coast Guard astronaut to fly on a Shuttle mission (he had been selected by NASA for astronaut training in 1996). He flew as a mission specialist on NASA flight STS-106 aboard the space shuttle Atlantis (September 8-20, 2000). During the 12-day mission, the crew successfully prepared the International Space Station for the arrival of the first permanent crew.

J. Ray McDermott Wins Offshore LNG Contract
McDermott International, Inc. announced that a subsidiary of J.Ray McDermott, S.A. has been awarded a contract by Ras Laffan Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (3) to provide engineering, procurement, construction and installation services for new facilities in Qatar’s North Field, as part of the Phase 2 Offshore Expansion Project. Contracts of this type are typically valued at approximately $0.5 billion. “RasGas is a valued client of J.
