KMW Enhances Cylinder Pressure Sensor

Germany's Kaufbeurer Mikrosysteme Wiedemann (KMW) has introduced a higher performance version of its Z01 sensor for measuring cylinder pressure in large diesel, gas and dual-fuel engines.“The further developments center on the measuring capability, accuracy and robustness of our Z01 sensors,” KMW project manager Daniel Maaß explains.“To facilitate the measurement of higher combustion pressures and to contribute to overall robustness, we have increased the temperature resistance of the sensing elements we use in the Z01 sensors. At the same time, new connection technology aims to improve overall resistance to both temperature and vibration.

ABB Enables Emission-free Port Visits

French ferry operator Corsica Linea is fitting out its ferries calling Port of Marseille with equipment necessary to use electricity for power at berth using  ABB’s shore connection technology.Instead of running diesel-fueled auxiliary engines, Paglia Orba, Jean Nicoli and Pascal Paoli ferrieswill use electricity for power at berth. Each of the three vessels is being modified to feature ABB’s power compensation solution Dynacomp, which allows electricity available from the local grid in Marseille to be stepped down to 11KV in order to take care of ship power needs while in port.“ABB shore connection technology enables the type of emissions-free ship power that regulators, ports and local residents increasingly demand.

Schneider Electric Supports UK Shipping and Port Industry

By plugging into the power grid with 100 per cent renewable electricity and turning off their diesel engines, ships at berth in the UK would reduce emissions equivalent to 84,000 to 166,000 diesel buses – or 1.2 million diesel cars representative of the current UK fleet. The pressure is mounting for the UK to align with EU air pollution emission targets, and ships at berth need to cut their fuel consumption and port authorities and terminal operators need to integrate shore power capabilities in a simpler and more efficient way. Schneider Electric supports decarbonisation through its business efforts, this has led to a sponsored study into the emissions from idling ships at berth in UK ports that affects the quality of the air we breathe.

Pipe, Pump, Values: Walform M Plus : Leak Free pipe connections

The Walform M Plus pipe connector system developed by GKN Walterscheid in Germany and marketed exclusively in Great Britain by Stauff UK is designed to deliver a new dimension of safety and reliability to pipework systems for British Warships. There were opportunities to introduce the latest connection technology for future builds, that would provide significant performance improvements as well as cost reductions. Therefore the MoD (Navy) with Stauff and Walterscheid at Qinetic in Rosyth entered into the most exhaustive test program ever carried out on pipe work couplings by the M.o.D. At the end of the program Walform M was given full M.o.D. (Navy) approval for use on Cupro - Nickel 70 / 30 pipework for all future work.
