Navy Help Clear Hurricane Sandy Destruction
Units of the U.S. Navy Northern Command continues to work closely with civil authorites in Sandy clear up operations. Continue to clear debris from NJ Barrier Islands. Continue to provide afloat staging base and support to USCG District 1. Continue to rebuild Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook. Continue dewatering [or pumping out] of Rockaway Beach, NY, and Brooklyn public housing. Continued support by NMCB-11 and CRS-4 at Hoboken Ferry Terminal Port Authority. NECC’s Fleet Survey Team will go ashore in order to complete tasking in Jamaica Bay.
US Navy Assists 'Sandy' Disaster Relief
The U.S. Navy provides disaster relief in support of other authorities in the New York & New Jersey areas affected by Hurricane 'Sandy'. USS Wasp (LHA 1), USS San Antonio (LPD 17), and USS Carter Hall (LSD 50) are in position off the coast of New York and New Jersey supplying military personnel and equipment to disaster areas. Wasp is supplying aircraft to aid in the mission with a total of 18 helicopters aboard. Wasp also sent a team of damage controlmen and hull technicians to help repair the damaged Hoboken Ferry Terminal.
USNS Comfort Arrives in Belize
The Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) arrived in Belize on June 20, its first scheduled stop as part of the Partnership for the Americas mission to conduct training and humanitarian assistance operations. Comfort’s joint forces crew -- which includes personnel from Military Sealift Command, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army, Canadian Forces and Project Hope -- will work at various sites in Belize and provide medical treatment to Belizean citizens, as well as repair medical equipment and restore existing medical facilities. U.S. Navy Seabee Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 202, based in Norfolk, will also perform construction work on two schools while in Belize. “We’re looking forward to serving the people of Belize.
