Bureau Veritas Acquires ATL Consulting Group

Bureau Veritas has acquired ATL Consulting Group, a U.K.-based engineering and management consulting group, which specializes in asset management, maintenance, integrity, performance and compliance. The acquisition, which will enable Bureau Veritas to broaden its asset management client base in the U.K., will focus on the building of a global consulting organization in the oil, gas, process and utility markets. Both Geoff Baker and Roger Smith, ATL's founding directors, will continue to lead the company while working closely other Bureau Veritas businesses.

KPMG To Provide Program Management Support To NAVSEA

KPMG Consulting, Inc., announced that it will provide long term program management support to the Naval Sea Systems Command's (NAVSEA) Undersea Weapons Program Office. KPMG Consulting teamed with Anteon Corporation, a leading information technology and engineering solution company, to win the delivery order, which was competed under a multiple award indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract. KPMG Consulting will be paid $5.7 million for the first year and could receive up to $48.7 million if all options are exercised and award terms are earned and retained. ClassNK Launches MLC Consulting Service

April 12 (Tokyo) – ClassNK has begun offering a new consulting service for the International Labour Organization’s Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006. The launch of this new service comes just as shipowners are beginning to practically address the requirements of the new convention, and as ClassNK moves to expand its services in maritime consulting. The MLC lays out a broad range of new regulations covering the working conditions and living environments of ships crews, and will enter effect 12 months after being formally ratified.

ClassNK Establishes First Ever Subsidiary

ClassNK has established a new wholly-owned subsidiary, ClassNK Consulting Service Co., Ltd., located in Tokyo. This new company, ClassNK’s first ever subsidiary, heralds a new chapter in the storied history of the Society, the world's largest in terms of tonnage. This development was made possible by the Society’s change in legal status to a general incorporated foundation under Japanese law in April 2011, and promises much in terms of cultivating new areas of growth. This subsidiary in particular will allow ClassNK to broaden its activities in the field of maritime consulting.

ABS Group Concludes Acquisition of Safetec Nordic AS

ABS Group of Companies, Inc. concluded its acquisition of Safetec Nordic AS, with a signing ceremony attended by senior ABS, ABS Group and Safetec management in Trondheim, Norway, on January 5, 2012. ABS and ABS Group Chairman, Robert D. Somerville, ABS Vice President David Weinstein, ABS Group CEO and President Tony Nassif and ABS Consulting President David Walker joined Safetec CEO Jan Morten Ertsaas, Safetec Board Chairman Jon Daniel Nesje and Professor Jan Erik Vinnem to sign the agreement bringing Safetec into the ABS Consulting organization. Damen Delivers Fast Crew Supplier to Sea Consult

Danish company Sea Consult ApS has taken delivery of its first Damen Twin Axe as the company prepares to enter the offshore wind market. Based in Marstal, Sea Consult is a new customer to Damen and this will be the first Fast Crew Supplier (FCS) 2610 to be operated by a Danish company. The vessel already has work at Belgian and German offshore wind farms for the next year and the company’s new vessel is expected to be deployed in the next two weeks. According to Damen, the short delivery time was a major reason the Danish company decided to choose the Damen high-speed catamaran.

ABS Consulting Awarded Government BPA

ABSG Consulting Inc. selected for the GSA Performance Management and Continuous Process Improvement (PM/CPI) Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA). The government-wide vehicle will allow agencies to procure a comprehensive set of services to maximize operational effectiveness, especially in the current uncertain budgetary climate. The services available include Strategic Planning and Performance Management; Strategic Business Analysis; Process and Performance Improvement; Communications and Change Management; and Training, Certification and Recognition. The BPA comes at a time when all government agencies are under extreme pressure to improve their operating efficiencies with minimal impact on mission performance.

RTM STAR Center First US institution Certified to SIGTTO LNG Standards

American Bureau of Shipping Consulting (ABS Consulting) has certified RTM STAR Center’s Tankship Liquefied Gases course as meeting all the requirements of the Society of International Gas Tanker & Terminal Operators, Ltd. (SIGTTO), LNG Shipping Suggested Competency Standards. This makes RTM STAR Center the first and only training organization in the U.S.A., and one of only eight organizations in the world, to be accredited or certified as meeting the SIGTTO standards. The certification process by ABS Consulting included a gap analysis and in-depth review of all student and instructor training materials followed by a rigorous 2-day onsite audit by a team of ABS auditors and LNG experts.

Maritime IT Consulting Service

Teledata Marine Solutions (TMS) will launch a maritime IT consulting service and Holistic Maritime Training (HMT) platform in Hong Kong on 4 September 2009. The U.S. Department of the Interior's Minerals Management Service awarded a $47 million, seven-year contract to Andersen Consulting to develop, install and operate an integrated financial system that will improve the Federal government's Royalty Management Program (RMP). Two former employees of Flender Werft, the Naval Architects Stefan Schwehm and Daniel Winters, have opened the new year with a new engineering company ORBIS MARINE CONSULT, in Lübeck, Germany. HDR Acquires Shiner Moseley and Associates

HDR, an architecture-engineering-consulting firm, has acquired Shiner Moseley and Associates, Inc., an engineering and environmental consulting firm based in Corpus Christi, Texas. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Going forward, Shiner Moseley will conduct business as HDR/Shiner Moseley and Associates. Shiner Moseley specializes in port/marine and coastal planning, engineering and permitting, in addition to civil, structural and environmental services.

Senate: Bill on South Carolina OCS Leasing Debuts

Senator Graham (R-SC) introduced the South Carolina Offshore Drilling Act (S. 3284) to amend the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to provide for the inclusion of areas off the coast of South Carolina in the outer Continental Shelf leasing program for fiscal years 2012 through 2017, and for other purposes.  Senator Graham issued a press release explaining the measure.  (6/11/12). Polar Sea Scrapping Postponed

Senator Cantwell (D-WA) issued a press release announcing an agreement with the US Coast Guard to postpone the scheduled scrapping of the icebreaker Polar Sea through the end of 2012.  The postponement allows the Administration and Congress more time to consider all options for fulfilling the nation's critical icebreaking missions.  (6/15/12). PCCI Wins Skimmer Boats Consulting Contract

PCCI awarded DC Water contract for the design and build process of skimmer boats PCCI, Inc. of Alexandria, Virginia, was awarded a contract to provide consulting services for the design/build process of debris skimmer boats for the Department of Fleet Management for the DC Water and Sewer Authority. PCCI’s consulting support includes providing technical assistance, system configurations and oversight of the acquisition, design review and the design/build process for new skimmer boats.

ACL Establishes Environmental Consulting SErvice

American Commercial Lines Inc.has established an environmental and regulatory consulting service to include environmental compliance auditing, regulatory training, and general consulting in environmental and safety management. The company also announced that ACL was recently accepted for membership in the Responsible Care Partnership program of the American Chemistry Council. Responsible Care Partnership is a global chemical industry performance initiative and is the largest and most comprehensive environmental, health, safety, and security initiative in American industry. Since 1988, members of the American Chemistry Council have significantly improved their environmental, health, safety and security performance through the Responsible Care initiative.

PDI Personnel Decisions International, Minneapolis, Minn., Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer Lowell Hellervik, Ph.D., was in April 2007 appointed a Duluth Seaway Port Authority Commissioner by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. GL Acquires Advantica

Germanischer Lloyd acquires the British Advantica Holding, based in Loughborough, with 660 employees worldwide from National Grid plc. With this acquisition, Germanischer Lloyd will double its turnover in the oil and gas industry and significantly strengthen its position in the UK, Middle East and US markets. Advantica concentrates on oil and gas installations and pipeline networks and is therefore an expert for risk and safety analyzes, offering consulting services for installation design and the optimization of operations. To date, the Germanischer Lloyd Industrial Services unit has focused on asset and process safety, production know-how and inspections as well as evaluation of structures and safety related components.

ABS NS Strengthens Management Team

ABS Nautical Systems has added four senior executives to lead the firm’s growth globally and to better serve its customers. Thomas Blenk has been appointed Vice President of Global Operations for ABS Nautical Systems based in Houston. Blenk, a veteran of ABS with over 12 years of experience in both classification and operations, oversees the account management and consulting teams and is overall responsible for implementation of the NS5 software suite for customers worldwide. Previously, Blenk was Country Manager, United Arab Emirates for ABS, and brings international expertise in directing complex state-of the-art marine projects.
