5 Types of Container Weighing Systems for Ports and Terminals

Every port and terminal facility needs weighing systems for containers. Weighing is critical in several processes in ports where accurate readings are paramount. To achieve this, the following weighing solutions can be incorporated. Weighbridges offer a vehicle weighing solution that may be placed at entrances and exits of the ports and terminals. An incoming truck can drive over the weighbridge and the total weight will be registered immediately. The tare weight of the truck must be deducted from the total weight to determine the container weight.

New SOLAS Compliant Container Weighing System

In response to the new SOLAS regulations due to enter force on July 1, 2016, LCM Systems has launched a new fully SOLAS compliant container weighing system. The company said it has been supplying container weighing systems for around five years with more than 40 system sold to date, and have utilized this experience to design a flexible modular system that can be easily and quickly retrofitted onto straddle carriers, container cranes and telehandlers. New Container Weighing System Sees Port Use

Since its recent launch, Strainstall’s Container weighing system has already become established in the Intermodel/Ports industry. It is currently being used at numerous key U.K. Ports in the U.K. including Port of Felixstowe and Tilbury – as well as being considered for integration throughout ports and terminals within Europe, Chile, U.S. and Canada. The system was developed in response to recent talks within the IMO calling for mandatory verification of container weights and utilizes Strainstall’s 45 years of designing standard and bespoke load measurement solutions. It has been specifically developed to enable port authorities, shipping companies and couriers to establish the exact weight of containers, as well as the ability to detect eccentric loads.
