Bristol Harbor Group to Design Ferry for Casco Bay Lines

Bristol, R.I. based naval architecture and marine engineering firm Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. (BHGI) has been selected by Casco Bay Lines (CBL), located in Portland, Maine, to provide naval architecture and marine engineering services for the evaluation and design of a new sub-chapter K passenger/vehicle ferry that will be operated year round in the coastal waters of Casco Bay.The new vessel will replace the 98-foot-long, 399-passenger Maquoit II, built by East Boothbay, Maine shipbuilder Washburn & Doughty in 1994.BHGI said it will be responsible for developing a preliminary design report…

“You still have to come up with a concept, and literally it can come to us on the back of a napkin. Wherever the idea starts, it must then be boiled down to the specifics. CAD has obviously helped to speed that process along, but in my mind, the implementation of 2D and 3D CAD hasn’t really shortened the entire design process, but it’s allowed us to get a better product.”

Shearer & Assoc., Bristol Harbor Form The Shearer Group

Ed Shearer, P.E., President of Shearer & Assoc., Inc., and Greg Beers, P.E., President of Bristol Harbor Group, Inc., have announced the formation of The Shearer Group, Inc., a new corporate entity that will provide naval architecture, marine engineering, marine surveying and professional engineer services to clients in the inland and offshore marine industry. The Shearer Group, Inc. is a combination of the best of what Mr. Shearer has spent the past several decades building at Shearer & Assoc., Inc.; and that which Mr. Beers and his partners Cory Wood and Andrew Tyska have built at Bristol Harbor Group, Inc. over the past 15 years.
