Liberian Registry Appoints London GM

The Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry (LISCR), the U.S.-based manager of the Liberian Registry, has appointed Kostas Ladas as general manager of its London office. Ladas joins LISCR from London-based ship and insurance broker and agent Victoria Steamship Co. Ltd., where he was vessel operations manager. Prior to that, he spent over 25 years with Coscon/Cosco (U.K.) Ltd. in London, where he held a variety of executive roles, including Chartering & Shipbroking deputy general manager, commercial manager and company legal adviser.

British Maritime Industry Eyes China’s One Belt, One Road Plan

China’s 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and Economic Belt development vision has takers in UK maritime sector, reports Xinhua News Agency. Both countries expected to improve bilateral maritime cooperation in the "Belt and Road" initiative, chairman of Maritime London Lord Mountevans said. ‘All maritime roads lead to London’ stated moderator Doug Barrow, chief executive of promotional body Maritime London, organiser of the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) event. CMA CGM, the third biggest container operator globally, signed a strategic "Belt and Road" project with China Merchants Holdings, investment arm of China Merchants (CM) Group, to investigate and evaluate together investment opportunities.

China Delegation Visits UK P&I Club

A delegation from Xiamen, China accompanied by the CEO of COSCO UK visit the London offices of Thomas Miller. The purpose of the visit by the delegation was to understand more of the shipping/insurance sectors in London and to foster good relations. The six-person Xiamen delegation was headed by its Vice Major, Mr Kang Tao together with Simon Yang (Shicheng), the CEO of COSCO UK. Xiamen is the second largest city in the Fujian province of China with a population of 4 million, and is the eighth largest container port in China and eighteenth in the world.
