Partners Aim to Develop Low Pressure Solutions for CO2 Shipping

Energy companies Equinor, Shell, TotalEnergies, Gassco and classification society DNV have commenced a new joint industry project (JIP) to develop low-pressure solutions for the transportation of CO2 by ships. The CETO (CO2 Efficient Transport via Ocean) JIP will carry out the technology qualification of a low-pressure ship design and identify solutions to scale CO2 transportation volume, while reducing the associated risks, to support the development of opportunities in CCS. CETO is funded by the project partners and GASSNOVA through the CLIMIT program and is expected to be completed in 2023.

LAGCOE Announces 2013 Officers

Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Exposition (LAGCOE) appointed its 2013 officers, according to LAGCOE Executive Director Angela Cring. Kirby Arceneaux has been named 2013 LAGCOE Chairman. Since 2001, Arceneaux has been an active contributor to the success of LAGCOE, serving continuously in leadership roles on Public Relations, Exhibit Judges and Executive Committees as well as serving on the Board of Directors. Arceneaux is Chairman of Environmental Drilling Solutions, LLC, a solids control/waste management firm based in Lafayette, La., with operations in many of the shale plays across North America. Hayata Receives ABS Type Approval

Hayata, LTD., manufacturers of high-quality, stainless steel cable ties and banding, has been granted Type Approval status for their products by ABS. This certification states that ABS did visit the facilities in order to carry out a survey of the plant as well as associated quality procedures. Sea Tow Presents Awards during 28th Annual Meeting

Sea Tow Services International, the world’s largest professional marine assistance organization, welcomed Rear Admiral William Baumgartner, the Coast Guard’s 7th District Commander, and Captain David McBride, the U.S. Coast Guard’s Chief of Search of Rescue, to its annual awards ceremony and dinner on Dec. 2, 2010, as part of the company’s 28th Annual Meeting held Dec. 1-3, 2010, in Delray Beach, Fla. Together with Capt. Joe Frohnhoefer, Sea Tow’s founder/CEO, RADM Baumgartner and CAPT McBride presented eight Sea Tow captains with Awards for Efforts Above and Beyond. RADM Baumgartner also presented the Sea Tow captains with his challenge coin, a military honor rooted in the U.S. Navy that acknowledges the receiver’s courage, strength, leadership and commitment to duty.

FLIR Systems Elects Wood to Board

FLIR Systems, Inc (NASDAQ: FLIR) announced that John W. Wood, Jr. has been elected to the Board of Directors for a term expiring at the Company's 2010 Annual Meeting of Shareholders. Mr. Wood has also been appointed to serve on the Corporate Governance Committee of the Board of Directors. Mr. Wood served as chief executive officer of Analogic Corporation, a leading designer and manufacturer of medical imaging and security systems, from 2003 to 2006, and is currently a consultant. Prior to joining Analogic, he held senior executive positions over a 22-year career at Thermo Electron Corporation. He served as president of Peek Ltd., a division of Thermo Electron Corporation, and as a senior vice president of the parent company.

VDGIF Gets 2 New Safeboats

Conservation police officers with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) unveiled their newest tool in serving as First Tier Responders for small craft engaged in suspicious water-based activities today at an event at Osborne Boating Landing. The two, new 21-foot, 12-man Safeboats will enhance conservation police officers' surveillance, detection, and intervention capabilities as they patrol the Norfolk, Newport News and Portsmouth harbor areas. The event included brief remarks by Secretary of Natural Resources L. Preston Bryant, Jr., Secretary of Public Safety John W. Marshall, and Assistant to the Governor for Commonwealth Preparedness Robert P. Crouch followed by a demonstration of how effective a tool the Safeboats will be on the water.

Repowers on The Ohio

James Marine, Inc., a marine service in Paducah, Ky., located at mile 5 on the Tennessee River; operates a diesel rebuilding service, mid-stream, fuel and grocery supplies and a shipyard repair facility. With their location, they get a good look at the trends on America's inland waterways. The recent trend toward greater environmental awareness and expected changes to the Environmental Protection Act to require greater pollution control on the inland waterways has prompted them to review their repower options. The existing fleet has been largely powered by two-cycle marine diesels, and they were interested in gaining fuel savings. This past December, they put their first repower vessel in service. the 50 x 21 ft. Miss Deanna has a pair of Cummins NTA855 engines each producing 400 hp.

The rugged, 3.28-mil hulls are lighter than comparable fiberglass hulls and are perfectly suited for operating in lakes and rivers or along rocky coastlines. In these environments, the aluminum bottoms also help resist abrasions from coral and sandy beaches. An extra air chamber between the hull and the floor keeps the Profile models buoyant even when flooded. The large-diameter tubes of the boats are made from 1670 decitex Hypalon/Neoprene fabric.
