Crowley’s Corporate Office Achieves LEED Silver

Crowley Maritime Corporation Chairman, President and CEO Tom Crowley, elected area officials and business leaders gathered at the company's corporate headquarters in Jacksonville to commemorate the completion of Crowley's office building renovation project and its United States Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Award Designation. The Crowley building is only the second building in Jacksonville to attain the LEED Silver award for commercial interiors.

Crowley Building Prevention Response Tugs

Vessel Management Services, a subsidiary of Crowley Maritime Corp., is building three Z-drive, Cat-powered prevention response tugs (PRT). The first 140-ft. vessel is scheduled to enter service in Prince William Sound, Alaska, in February, 2000, with the other two following closely in April and June. Dakota Creek Industries, Anacortes, Wash., is building the vessels, which were designed by Guido Perla & Associates, Seattle. Propulsion will be provided by two Cat 3612s, each rated 5,096 bhp at 900 rpm. Two Aquamaster Z-drives, with 5.15:1 gear reduction will drive 138-in. diameter controllable pitch propellers inside nozzles. The vessels will have approximately 260,000 lbs. of bollard pull, and an estimated top speed of 15 knots.

Crowley Building Three PRTs for Alaska

Crowley Marine Services (CMS) has announced a contract to provide three new 140-ft. prevention and response tugs (PRTs) for the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company for use in Valdez Harbor and Prince William Sound, Alaska as part of its on-going fleet expansion and revitalization program. The PRTs are general purpose tugs powered by twin Caterpillar 3612B engines generating 10,192 hp driving two Kamewa Aquamaster azimuthing thrusters. The vessels will have oil spill recovery and storage capability for up to 43,000 gal. of recovered oil. Design features include accommodation for up to 16 persons, Schuyler fendering, a Markey TDS-40 towing winch, Step Warmfloor heated decking, and two oil spill recovery skiffs with boom.
