OCI Global and X-Press Feeders Sign Green Methanol Offtake Agreement
OCI Global will supply X-Press Feeders with OCI HyFuels green methanol for their newbuild methanol dual-fueled common feeder ships from 2024.The green methanol will be used to fuel X-Press Feeders’ upcoming dual-fuel vessels servicing European ports and will be supplied in the Port of Rotterdam from 2024.X-Press Feeders says it will be the first common feeder operator with methanol fueled vessels on the water in Europe.Earlier this year OCI announced its partnership with Unibarge to retrofit the first methanol powered bunker barge which will be deployed at the Port of Rotterdam.
Wärtsilä Partners to Develop Hybrid Dredger
Wärtsilä has signed a strategic development agreement with Chinese state-owned shipbuilder CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited Huangpu Wenchong. The five year agreement is aimed at the joint development of a hybrid powered dredger, but could possibly extend to other hybrid vessels as well. The agreement was signed on December 3 at the Marintec conference and exhibition in Shanghai.The purpose of the agreement is to build a cooperation framework and working mechanism for the research and development of hybrid power systems.

Zentech Inks Deal for Two Z-210 with CSSC
Zentech Incorporated of Houston, Texas, USA signed contracts with CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited for the construction of (2) Z-210 Mobile Offshore Units. These contracts were finalized based on the Letter of Intent received by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard on September 23,2015. The Z-210 is a self-propelled, self-elevating, DP-2 capable, ABS Class, high temperature (55 deg Celsius) rated 4-legged mobile offshore unit capable of operating in water depths of up to 280 feet. The wide array of unique and innovative features of the Z-210 has already captured the attention of operators and one of these units has already been secured by an undisclosed operator in Asia!
Huangpu Wenchong Bags Contract for Two Vessels
Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding has secured newbuild contracts for a 17,000dwt asphalt carrier and a 38,800dwt bulk carrier. The eco-friendly bulk carrier is scheduled to be delivered from the shipyard by end-2017. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. The asphalt carrier, ordered by Tianjin Southwest Marine, is scheduled for delivery in 2017. The bulk carrier was ordered by CSSC Shipping (Hong Kong), the shipowning division of CSSC. Delivery is scheduled at the end of 2017. According to local media, bulker operators would be selective and choose only to build energy efficient and environmentally friendly ships such as the yard’s eco-friendly 38,800 dwt bulkers.
DNV GL Open New South China Office
Ship classification society DNV GL says it has opened its new office in Guangzhou to support business growth in this shipbuilding area. Located in downtown Guangzhou, the new, expanded DNV GL office services as a centre for the company’s operations in South China. Headed by Area Manager Gu Xiaoli, DNV GL South China covers the provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan. “South China is one of the three national shipbuilding bases laid out by the Chinese government. The launch of DNV GL’s expanded new office shows our stronger commitment to the market after the merger of DNV and GL,” says DNV GL’s Vice President and Regional Manager for Greater China Torgeir Sterri.
