Damen Unveils Multi-role Utility Vessel

Work is due to start shortly on the first of a new class of Damen utility vessel UV2410. This multi-role platform is the result of extensive consultation with customers active in the aquaculture industry in the U.K. and Norway, the shipbuilder said. For these customers it was important that the rule length of the new vessel be no more than 24 meters and, for U.K. customers in particular, that it fits within the 200 Gross Tonnage limit. Feedback indicated that within that length maximum possible protected deck space and good seakeeping were top priorities, along with ample accommodation. The Utility Vessel 2410 delivers all these requirements and more.

Terex Scoops 2 IBJ Awards

Terex® Quaymate M50 mobile harbour crane is Crane of the Year – Dr. Rotterdam/Düsseldorf, 24 November 2014 – Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has been successful in two categories of this year’s awards, presented by the leading international specialist magazine International Bulk Journal (IBJ). In Rotterdam, TPS received the Crane of the Year award for its Terex® Quaymate M50 mobile harbour crane, launched in spring 2014. In addition Dr. Mathias Dobner, Vice President Development, Engineering & Operation at TPS, was named Personality of the Year. Since 2009, IBJ has presented these awards. They are considered some of the most sought-after prizes in the bulk materials handling market.

Kirby Corp. Announces Record 3Q Results

Record 2014 third quarter earnings per share of $1.34 compared with $1.21 in the 2013 third quarter, which included a $0.08 benefit due to the reduction of the United earnout liability. Kirby Corporation announced record net earnings attributable to Kirby for the third quarter ended September 30, 2014 of $76.7 million, or $1.34 per share, compared with $69.1 million, or $1.21 per share, for the 2013 third quarter, which included a $0.08 per share benefit due to the reduction of the United earnout liability.

ICS Produces Guidelines for IMO Regulation

Guidelines helping shipowners comply with a new International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulation, requiring ship-specific planned procedure for recovering individuals from the water, have been launched by the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS). Under the new SOLAS Regulation, effective July 1, all ships are required to develop plans and procedures that identify the equipment used for recovery purposes and measures to minimise the risks for shipboard personnel involved in recovery operations.

Crowley Solutions Raises Asia/Pacific Profile

Crowley's project management organization, 'solutions', will soon expand its presence in Asia Pacific market with new office and construction of up to four dedicated heavy-lift deck barges. Because of changing market conditions and a commitment to proactively support customer needs, Crowley Maritime Corp. ’s solutions group is expanding its presence in the Asia Pacific market by opening a new project management office in Singapore and building two new heavy-lift deck cargo barges for dedicated use in the region. The company also has an option for the construction of two additional barges.

Alpine Ocean Seismic Survey Launches 110-ft RV

Norwood, New Jersey — May 10, 2011 — Alpine Ocean Seismic Survey, [ http://www.alpineocean.com ] a provider of marine surveying and data collection services, announces the launch of the multi-use research vessel, the R/V Shearwater. Norwegian Salvage of the U-864

At a press conference the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs, Helga Pedersen, announced that the Norwegian government will propose to parliament that the U-864, a German submarine which sank in World War II, should be salvaged rather than left on the seabed and encased to ensure the safety of people and environment. The Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) selected Mammoet Salvage for the potential salvage of the submarine which contains toxic mercury and explosives. The proposal will be discussed in the Norwegian parliament in the near future. The salvage operation of the submarine will be undertaken in the summer of 2010. In the period leading up to that Mammoet will prepare dedicated equipment for the operation.

More Combat Boats Success For Transas Scandinavia

Transas Scandinavia has received an order to supply an extensive range of advanced navigational equipment to 27 units of the Swedish Defense CombatBoat-90 project. This will be the last batch of more than 160 fast boats constructed for the Swedish Amphibious Forces. The vessels will be specially equipped for U.N. peace-keeping operations and the Transas Navi-Sailor 2500 system interfaced with dedicated equipment for encrypted radio communication (PC-DART), will be one of the most vital systems onboard the craft. According to the contract terms, specifically for this project Transas Scandinavia AB will develop and install an integrated system, called NAVSYSTEM 3000, designated for use by the pilot (helmsman) and co-pilot (navigator).

PetroCom’s VSAT Sat Services Completely Operational

PetroCom is making great strides in repairing its communication systems that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Patched very small aperture terminal (VSAT) satellite and wireless systems that were quickly operational with ingenuity and resourcefulness are now repaired properly and working near capacity. “My staff has done an unbelievable job of improvising and thinking outside of the box to restore services. Our first goal was to patch communication trunk-lines and make them operational, which allowed us to evaluate the full extent of the damages,” said PetroCom President & COO Ken Wright. PetroCom’s DS3 fiber-optic connection has been repaired in New Orleans and VSAT satellite services are fully operational and capable of running at full capacity.
