Alion Opens New Facility in Charleston

Thales’s JTRS Receives JITC Certification

Thales Communications, Inc., has announced that its AN/PRC-148 Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Enhanced Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio (MBITR), or JEM, has received Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) certification for the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) satellite communications (SATCOM) Integrated Waveform (IW). Thales’s SATCOM IW capability eliminates the need for warfighters to carry their existing heavy, manpack tactical radio systems, and enables each member of the team to deploy with a fully-interoperable, beyond line-of-sight (BLOS) capability. The JITC certification allows users access to SATCOM IW on their fielded AN/PRC-148 JEMs via software upgrade, producing minimal impact on deployed radios and requiring minimal operator intervention.

Iridium Reports Strong Growth in Q2

Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq:IRDM) reported financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2010. The following reflects the results of Iridium Communications Inc. for the second quarter of 2010 compared to those of Iridium Holdings LLC (predecessor) for the second quarter of 2009. -    Total billable subscribers grew 16.8%, reaching approximately 383,000 – up from approximately 328,000 at the end of the comparable quarter last year. Growth occurred across all product areas. -    Commercial service revenue increased 13.8% to $45.5 million in the second quarter compared to $40.0 million during the second quarter of 2009. For the first half of the year, commercial service revenue was up 12.5% over the first half of 2009.

Maritime Telecommunications Network Signs Exclusive Contract With AT&T

Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), a subsidiary of ICG Satellite Services, has signed an exclusive seven-year lease agreement with AT&T to provide C-Band equipment including antennas, stabilized platforms and terminal services to be used on US Navy ships around the world. MTN already supports numerous government contracts including Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR), Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Afloat Personal Telecommunications System (APTS) and Armed Forces Radio and Television Services (AFRTS). The new agreement extends MTN's previous contract with AT&T and will include the installation of at least 15 APTS systems on board military ships. The MTN system enables sailors to utilize their AT&T Calling Cards to make calls from anywhere in the world.
