Wärtsilä Admits Manipulation on Ship Engine Fuel Tests

Wärtsilä Corporation has, at its own initiative, conducted an internal audit of test processes globally. This was done to secure compliance and to ensure operational excellence within the company. The investigation has brought forward deviations in certain fuel consumption measurement tests conducted for marine engines in Wärtsilä Delivery Centre Trieste in Italy before customer dispatches. The deviations are on average 1% of fuel consumption. Of all Wärtsilä engine deliveries a total of 2% may have been affected. Engines for power plant customers are not impacted, and we have no evidence of deviations in other operations. Wärtsilä to Set Up New Manufacturing Plant

Wärtsilä will set up a new fully-owned manufacturing facility in Brazil to meet the increasing market demand, particularly in the offshore market. Wärtsilä's investment in the new facilities is approximately EUR 20 million. The manufacturing premises will be based on a multi-product factory concept for the assembly and testing of Wärtsilä generating sets and propulsion products. In the initial phase, activities will focus on medium sized, medium speed generating sets and steerable thrusters, with the possibility to flexibly expand the product range to respond to market needs.

Wärtsilä Inaugurates New Facility

Ole Johansson, President and CEO of Wärtsilä Corporation, Tage Blomberg, Group Vice President of Wärtsilä Services, Sergio Razeto, President of Wärtsilä in Italy and Lars Hellberg, Group Vice President of Wärtsilä Industrial Operations were all present at the inauguration of the new modern facilities for the Wärtsilä Delivery Centre Trieste, Italy. The Wärtsilä investment project, which started last year at the Delivery Centre Trieste in Italy, is now complete. Wärtsilä has invested $24.8m in a modern manufacturing concept to increase capacity for engine assembly and testing in Trieste, Italy.
