Obituary: David Parrot, Founder and Former Chief, TITAN Salvage
David Gray Parrot, 65, founder and former chief of TITAN Salvage, passed away in Maine in the comfort of family and friends. Parrot is survived by his wife Penny, sons Hunter and Gage, and a network of friends and family. A private family service is scheduled for this weekend in Maine. ASA Helps Out with MV Lee III Recovery
A member of the American Salvage Association (ASA) quickly responded to the MV Lee III, a supply boat that collided with a container ship and sunk February 21 near the southwest pass of the Mississippi River, a key channel for shipping. The MV Lee III was towed away, the river was open for one-way traffic within 96 hours, and the wreck was fully cleared within a week after the incident. Five crewmembers were lost in the incident; three of the deceased crewman were removed form the wreck prior to its raising.
ASA Urges USCG for Salvage Regs
The American Salvage Association (ASA) has been urging the United States Coast Guard to move forward and promulgate critically important regulations for marine salvage and firefighting, which have been suspended three times and stalled for more than 13 years. The regulations are more important now than ever before as the nation faces the threat of terrorist incidents in the marine transport sector, be they in ports, terminals or aboard ships. While government has been working to prevent terrorist incidents from occurring, an efficient, professional, specialized response capability for marine disasters is required. Professional marine salvors often serve as first responders at the time of marine incidents, working quickly to minimize damage and expedite recovery.

ASA Responds to Delaware River Spill
Several members of the American Salvage Association (ASA) were contracted to assist in the case of the tanker Athos I, which began leaking oil as she entered a terminal off the Delaware River outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on the evening of November 27, 2004. Three ASA General Members, along with an Associate Member, joined together to respond to the casualty. The ASA members provided salvage assistance, as well as the pumping, lightering and removal of the crude oil. The Athos I is currently on even keel, and free of all cargo. At the direction of the U.S. Coast Guard, ASA members are working to patch the hull of the tanker and prepare her for dry dock.
