N-Sea Charters Offshore Support Vessel from Rederij Groen

Subsea services firm N-Sea Group has agreed to charter Rederij Groen's Dutch-flagged vessel 4-WINDS, an offshore support vessel built in 2012. The 4-WINDS is 60.25 meters long, with a 14.95-meter beam and a draught of 5 meters.According to N-Sea Group, which offers survey, IRM & construction, subsea cable repair & installation, and UXO ID and disposal services, the 4-WINDS is the ideal vessel to execute survey and other subsea tasks in the North Sea. Invasive Pest-infested Cargo Ship Ordered to Leave U.S. Waters

A cargo ship was ordered to leave the U.S waters after U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agriculture specialists at the Port of New Orleans discovered invasive insects found in the wood used to secure its previous cargo offloaded earlier in Mexico. The ship, named Pan Jasmine, arrived at the anchorage of Davant, downriver from New Orleans at mile marker 54, on July 17, having previously offloaded a shipment of aluminum in Vera Cruz, Mexico, after coming from Paradip, India."The wood used to pack the aluminum had not been offloaded in Mexico and was left scattered on the deck of the Pan Jasmine, which is unusual. No reason was provided to CBP as to why the dunnage was refused discharge in Mexico, and this raised a red flag.

UK to Sell HMS Ocean to Brazil

The MOD has agreed to sell HMS Ocean to the Government of Brazil after 20 years of service. Sold to the Brazilian Navy for around £84M ($117m), the profit generated from the sale will be reinvested in defence at a time when the Royal Navy is being strengthened with two types of brand new frigates and two huge aircraft carriers. HMS Queen Elizabeth, which will eventually take on the role as the nation’s new flagship, recently set sail from the port of Gibraltar carrying two Chinooks and four Merlin helicopters as she readies for helicopter trials at sea.

Danos Adds Environmental Services

Danos recently added an Environmental Services Division to the company’s collection of oilfield related services, which includes production workforce, construction, fabrication, coatings, instrumentation and electrical, and shorebase and logistics. Latest DofD, Navy, Contracts

Two dredging and dredging related contracts are among the latest awarded by the Department of Defense, Navy, for the contracting authority, the Army Corps of Engineers. Norfolk Dredging Co., Chesapeake, Va., was awarded a firm-fixed-price contract with a maximum value of $8,400,000 for dredging and disposal services along the Delaware River. Work will be performed in Philadelphia, Pa., Salem, N.J., and New Castle, Del. Fiscal 2013 operations and maintenance funds in the amount of $7,500,000 are being obligated on this award. The bid was solicited through the Internet, with two bids received. The Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia, Pa., is the contracting activity (W912BU-13-C-0032).

HMS Invincible is for sale by tender. The aircraft carrier HMS Invincible is being auctioned online as part of a multi-million-pound sale of UK military hardware. The sale is designed to reduce a £36billion hole in the MoD’s finances. Featured on the MoD’s Disposal Services Authority website - http://www.edisposals.com - are full details on the ship, which was laid down in 1973 at Vickers Shipbuilding, Barrow-in-Furness, and is the ship from which Prince Andrew flew helicopters during the 1982 Falklands War.

Mass. Maritime Academy, $1.5m for Stadium

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy has received a pledge from Clean Harbors Environmental Services, Inc. of Norwell, Mass. in the amount of $1.5m for naming rights to its contiguous athletic stadium and gymnasium complex. The acceptance of the pledge, which was presented by Clean Harbors Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alan S. McKim, was approved unanimously earlier this morning by the school's Board of Trustees and announced by Admiral Richard G. Gurnon, President of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The Clean Harbors Athletic Center will be comprised of the athletic stadium, which is the current home of Commander Edward A. Ellis Field, as well as all athletic and recreation facilities currently housed in Alumni Gymnasium.

Shell Marine Products Wins MSC Contract

Shell Marine Products (US) Company (SMP) has been awarded a Department of Defense contract to support more than 150 government-owned ships in the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC) fleet worldwide. The company competed for the right to supply marine lubricants and provide waste oil disposal services and related engineering support services. The contract value is approximately $8.6 million and work will be performed in various locations around the world for a period of one year, starting January 1, 2005. The contract represents a significant achievement for the growth aspirations of SMP. It includes four one-year options, which if exercised, would bring the total cumulative estimated value of this contract to approximately $46.5 million.
