Korean engine manufacturer HSD Engine is to offer ABB’s diagnostics and advisory software Tekomar XPERT to shipowners operating its two-stroke and four-stroke marine engines.Tekomar XPERT is a digital performance optimization platform applicable to any engine that is designed to help shipping companies achieve substantial fuel savings and greenhouse gas emission reductions. MAN to Deliver Propulsion for Pasha’s LNG Containerships

MAN D&T Scoops 11 MSC Vessel Order
MAN Diesel & Turbo has won the order from MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company for 11 × 23,000 TEU container vessels equipped with 11 × MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 main engines. Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will construct six of the vessels while Daewoo Shipping Marine Engineering (DSME) will construct the remainder. MSC Jade Sails with MAN's Biggest Engine
The largest and most powerful engine from MAN Diesel & Turbo’s portfolio ever designed and built has entered service. Built by Doosan Engine in Korea and rated at 75,570 kW (103,000 horsepower), the engine is an MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 two-stroke type that acts as prime mover aboard the MSC Jade. The 19,437-teu container vessel is operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the global container shipping company. Daewoo Shipbuilding (DSME) delivered the newbuilding on 20 May, which subsequently sailed the short tour to Busan. The MSC Jade also features 4 × MAN L32/40 auxiliary engines (2 × 8L32/40 + 2 × 9L32/40 units), each with a single MAN NR34/S turbocharger. Doosan Engine reported the main engine’s initial start during October 2015 and a successful shop-test subsequently followed.
Creditors Putting Pressure on Samsung Heavy
The restructuring issue of Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) will spread to the entire Samsung Group as its main creditor Korea Development Bank(KDB) and the financial authorities are putting pressure on the group, reports Business Korea. SHI has submitted its self-rescue plan to its main creditor, the state-run KDB, the Korea Herald reports citing a company official as saying on Tuesday. The plan, aimed at restoring the company’s liquidity, reportedly includes up to 1,500 job cuts, selling of KRW 200 billion worth (USD 169 million) of real estate assets and disposing of stakes in Doosan Engine. MAN’s Largest, Most Powerful Engine Leaves Test Bed
Doosan Engine has reported that the initial start of an MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 two-stroke engine took place during October 2015 at its works in Korea, followed subsequently by a successful shop-test. According to MAN Diesel & Turbo, the engine – rated at 103,000 horsepower – is the largest and most powerful engine from its portfolio ever to be designed and built. The engine is the first in a series of six bound for six 19,160-teu containerships ordered by one of the world's largest shipping lines, Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC).
CMR Opens New Korea Office
Aiming to boost its operations in the Asia-Pacific territory, control instrumentation and electrical engineering specialist CMR Group has invested in a new Korea office. CMR Group Korea has opened in Busan under managing director Brian Kim who will be leading the company’s operation there. According to the company, the initial focus will be on new business development as CMR returns to the domestic market, looking after sales and marketing for the group’s range of products for the marine, engine and nuclear business sector.
First LNG Containership Receives ME-GI Engine
Late last month, NASSCO engineers placed the world’s first dual-fuel slow speed engine into the World’s First Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) powered containership. The ME-GI engine represents the next generation of technology that will open the door to a cleaner and safer shipping industry, particularly in the United States. Doosan Engine built the 8L70ME-C8.2GI under license from the designer MAN Diesel and Turbo. The engine weighs 539 tons. TOTE Shipholdings, Inc., a subsidiary of TOTE, is the first company to use these engines in their vessels.

The 3,100-teu container ship ordered by American marine transportation company TOTE, will be powered by an all-MAN package including main engine, auxiliary engines and turbochargers . The recent delivery of the world’s first dual-fuel, low-speed ME-GI engine from Doosan Engine to National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) has set a new, historical milestone in engine technology, say MAN Diesel & Turbo. The 8L70ME-C8.2-GI main engine is aspirated by 2 × TCA66 turbochargers and in addition the ship will receive 3 × 9L28/32DF auxiliary engines, each featuring a single TCR18 turbocharger. A second, identical vessel is currently under construction.

New Wärtsilä X72 Powerplant Passes Crucial Test
Wärtsilä said that the first ever Wärtsilä X72 mid-bore, low-speed engine has successfully passed the factory acceptance test. This milestone verifies that the engine fulfils the design criteria for performance and functioning, and that it has been accepted by the customer and the Lloyd's Register of Shipping classification society. The tests were carried out at the Doosan Engine Co. Ltd factory in South Korea, where the engines are being produced under license from Wärtsilä. Wärtsilä launched its low-speed Generation X engine series in May 2011. The Wärtsilä X72 engine offers exceptional efficiency and fuel consumption performance to provide a favourable Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).
MAN Gets Engine Orders From Chevron
MAN Diesel & Turbo to supply G-type Tier III-Compliant Engines for 2 lightering vessel newbuildings powered by MAN B&W 6G70ME-C9.2 prime movers. The newbuildings will each use an MAN Diesel & Turbo EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system to help their ME-C prime movers meet Tier III emission standards well in advance of requirements coming into effect. The engines will also retain the ability to switch to Tier II operation when outside the ECA (Environmental Control Area). MHI to License MET Turbocharger Production To STX Metal
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and STX Metal Co., Ltd., a marine diesel engine manufacturer in Korea, have signed an agreement under which MHI will license production and marketing of its MET Turbocharger*, a supercharger for marine diesel engines, to the Korean firm. By establishing a collaborative relationship with STX Metal, MHI aims for further market penetration of the MET Turbocharger in Korea, the world leader in marine diesel engine production. STX Metal is expected to complete production of the first unit of the MET Turbocharger in 2012.
First of Innovative Bulk Carrier Series Delivered
DY4001 is the lead ship of the CROWN 63 series, a series of 63,500-DWT bulk carriers, which recently completed its sea trial items made its return voyage on February 17. According the shipyard, the vessel’s speed trial was proven beyond its design prediction and met all the guarantee. Swire PSV Genset Contract for MAN
Swire has ordered eight IMT-997 platform supply vessels (PSVs), with four to be built by Universal Shipbuilding Corporation in Japan and a further four to be built by EISA Shipyard in Brazil. Each vessel will be equipped with 4 × 6L27/38 MAN gensets, with each unit rated at 1,980 kW at 720 rpm. All generating sets will be constructed by MAN Diesel & Turbo’s Korean licensee, Doosan Engine Co. Ltd. The 97-metre, 5,000-dwt PSVs will be approved with DP2 (dynamic positioning) capability and have diesel-electric propulsion systems with azimuth propulsion units.

Channel Chieftain VI is a 19m aluminium wind farm support vessel built for Carlin Boat Charters which provides passenger and crew transfer services to wind farms across the UK and Northern Europe. Powered by a pair of 4V222TIM engines through Twin Disc gearboxes, developing 647kW at 2,100rpm supplied by WaterMota, Channel Chieftain will have a top speed of 25 knots and a service speed of 20 knots.
