U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) announced more than $703 million to fund 41 projects in 22 states and one territory that designed to help improve port facilities through the Maritime Administration’s Port Infrastructure Development Program. Kalmar's new all-electric terminal tractor is helping the Port of Long Beach (POLB) meet its eco-efficiency objectives while satisfying the commercial demands of the users of the second-busiest container seaport in the US.According to a press release from Kalmar, a part of Cargotec Corporation, POLB  in California handles trade worth in excess of $180bn from 175 shipping lines connecting to 217 seaports around the world. In 2017, more than 7.5 million container units passed through the port.US port operators are increasingly demanding more environmentally friendly machines and Californian ports have taken a lead in this respect by setting a target of having fully electric fleets by 2030.Ports present some unique environmental challenges given their frequent proximity to residential areas.

With this latest delivery of cranes, the APM Terminals Moin remains on schedule for completion in February 2019, when it is expected to raise commerce in Costa Rica by 23% according to Qbis Socioeconomic Impact Study. This second delivery of Ship-to-Shore and Electric Rubber-Tire Gantry Cranes (ERTGs) to APM Terminals Moin, Costa Rica brings the total on site to six and 23 respectively. The commissioning of the equipment was completed this week. “APM Terminals Moin is proud to celebrate this milestone, which puts Costa Rica on the logistics map and sends the right signal to stakeholders about our commitment to the country´s trade,” said Kenneth Waugh, Managing Director of APM Terminals Moin. “These cranes represent a significant improvement in the competitiveness of the nation.

Officials from the Port of Long Beach, Southern California Edison and the California Energy Commission today launched the nation’s largest pilot project for zero-emissions cranes and other cargo-handling equipment for seaports. Funded mostly by a $9.7 million grant from the California Energy Commission, the project will bring 25 vehicles that are zero- or near zero-emissions to Port of Long Beach marine terminals for one year to test their performance in a real-world setting. The launch event was held at Pacific Container Terminal at Long Beach’s Pier J — operated by SSA Terminals — one of three terminals participating in the project.

Aggressively deploying zero and near-zero emission trucks and cargo-handling equipment and expanding programs that reduce ship emissions are among the core strategies the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are proposing for the next version of San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP). Proposals also focus on freight infrastructure investment, innovation and technology to improve supply chain efficiency, comprehensive energy planning, and increased advocacy for stricter emissions standards and government incentives to help pay for projects that advance testing and commercialization of zero and near-zero emission vehicles. The updated CAAP provides one of California’s first opportunities to implement the vision laid out in the State’s Sustainable Freight Action Plan.

Press release- Global engineering group Cavotec has won five separate orders with a combined value of more than $9.6  million for some of its key innovative technologies, including the Group's MoorMasterTM automated mooring system and the new Automatic Plug-in System (APS), highlighting the strength and diversity of Cavotec's portfolio. The largest of these orders is for a number of MoorMasterTM MM400E automated mooring units at the Port of Salalah in Oman, which are to be installed at one of the port's container berths.

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a second repeat order for additional nine all-electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes (ERTGs) with Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) S.A. in Greece, a wholly-owned subsidiary of COSCO Pacific Limited. The deliveries are scheduled for 2016. Kalmar's previous deliveries to the terminal consisted of 12 ERTGs in 2013 and nine ERTGs in 2015. This new order will further consolidate Kalmar's relationship with the customer who operates Kalmar ERTGs, straddle carriers, reachstackers, forklift trucks, empty container handlers and terminal tractors. The zero-emission cranes, which are 9+1 wide, will help the port achieve its goal of increasing capacity while meeting all the latest environmental demands.

Cavotec announced it has received orders for its port technologies in Australia, Indonesia, Oman, Portugal and Turkey, and for two major shipping lines, with a combined value of more than EUR 11.5 million. Cavotec will supply eight MoorMaster automated mooring units for installation at a container berth at the Port of Salalah in Oman, where a number of MoorMaster units have been in service for several years. MoorMaster is a vacuum-based automated mooring technology that eliminates the need for conventional mooring lines.

The cranes, four of which are the world's widest, will help the port meet its twin goals of increasing both capacity and savings. The deliveries are scheduled for 2015. This order further consolidates Kalmar's partnership with the terminal, as Mr Li Jianchun, Deputy General Manager of PCT, explains: "We currently operate Kalmar RTGs, straddle carriers, reachstackers, forklift trucks, empty container handlers and terminal tractors.

The Georgia Ports Authority won recognition by the Environmental Protection Agency as a leader in reducing carbon emissions. The Southeast Diesel Collaborative (SEDC), a public-private partnership formed by the U.S. EPA Region 4 office, named the GPA as a Community Leadership Award winner. “The GPA has voluntarily undertaken many projects to decrease diesel fuel consumption, resulting in improved air quality,” said GPA Executive Director Curtis Foltz. In December 2012, the Georgia Ports Authority unveiled its first four electrified rubber-tired gantry cranes.

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has signed a large order for twelve all-electric rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) to Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) SA in Greece. The cranes, scheduled for delivery in late 2013, will facilitate the port's continued expansion, with capacities planned to increase from 2.6 MTEU to 3.1 MTEU per year. The order has been booked into Cargotec's 2012 fourth quarter order intake. PCT, operating in Greece since 2009, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of COSCO Pacific Limited, a world-leading container terminal operator. This latest order further consolidates Kalmar's long term partnership with the terminal, as Mr. "We currently operate with Kalmar straddle carriers, reachstackers, forklift trucks, empty container handlers and terminal tractors.

The Los Angeles Harbor Commission Thursday certified the final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the proposed Berth 97-109 Container Terminal Project (China Shipping) and approved the project. The approved project, which will include a tenant lease to year 2045, will provide thousands of future jobs while substantially reducing air emissions at the terminal through unprecedented mitigation measures. “We’ve just approved what could very well be the cleanest and greenest port container terminal operation in the world,” said Los Angeles Harbor Commission President, S. David Freeman. “This is the third major project EIR our Board has approved in roughly 12 months – it’s another sizable investment in the future of this Port,” added Port Executive Director Geraldine Knatz, Ph.D.

Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), U.S.A. and Konecranes have closed a contract for the delivery of four Super Post Panamax Ship-to-Shore (STS) container cranes and 15 all-electric Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes to the Garden City Terminal in the Port of Savannah, Georgia. Deliveries will start in the spring of 2007 and continues until April 2008. The value of the order is over $50 Million. As the volume of containers moving through the Port of Savannah escalates and the container vessels grow even larger, bigger and faster cranes are required for container handling. The newly ordered STS cranes can service the largest vessels in the world, and the RTG cranes provide the fastest container flow on the container yard. To date, Konecranes has delivered 11 STS-cranes and 31 RTG-cranes to GPA.
