ESL Uses Multiple Modes to Cut Carbon Emissions 20%

Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) reports that it has cut 20% emissions on 75% of its fleet using a multi-prong approach of equipment technology and operational technique.A central aspect of the program involved a re-design of ESL’s vessels' propellers. In collaboration with designers from Mecklenburger Metallguss GmbH (MMG), ESL and the Peter Döhle group jointly developed and installed upgraded propellers on each ship. The use of these propellers reportedly yielded a significant improvement in overall flow and efficiency.

DP World, Emirates Shipping Launch GLX

DP World and Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) today announced the launch of a new shipping service GALEX (GLX), a consortium of four vessel operators – ESL, KMTC, RCL and Hanjin. GALEX consists of seven vessels with a capacity of 6,500 TEUs each and reinforces Cochin Port’s position as a transshipment hub with state-of-the-art facilities available to customers. The announcement coincides with the maiden call of a GALEX service at the International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT), Cochin today. GALEX will embark from Pusan, South Korea, calling at Shanghai, Ningbo, Chiwan, Singapore, Port Klang, Colombo, Cochin, Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Jebel Ali on the outward route of the new service. The return route will depart from Jebel Ali direct to Port Klang, Hong Kong and finally back to Pusan.

Shipping Majors Expand Cooperative Setup

The CMA CGM Group announced a new cooperation setup with current partner Maersk Line, APL and OOCL on three existing Far East to Indian Subcontinent services (CIMEX 2/FM3, CIX, CIX3), starting in February 2014. In a Slot Sharing Agreement that also includes partners as Emirates Shipping Line, Hamburg Süd and Regional Container Lines, 18 vessels with a total capacity of about 17,500 TEU’s will be deployed on the three Far East-Indian Subcontinent services. ISS Appoint Romi Kaushai Asia Pacific Operations V-P

International maritime services provider, Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS), has appointed Romi Kaushal as Executive Vice President of Operations for their Asia Pacific region. With extensive experience in operations and shore based management, Romi has worked in senior commercial and operational positions across the globe. He was also a Principal Consultant for KPMG, CEO for the Emirates Shipping Line in Hong Kong and has held shipping roles in Hamburg, New York, Dubai and Montreal.

China Shipyard Delivers 4,800 TEU Emirates Containership

Emirates Shipping Line (ESL) has received the first of two 4,770-TEU vessels ordered by Hamburg's Hammonia Shipping & constructed by Jiangsu New Yangzijiang shipyard. The Hammonia Istria will be chartered to Emirates Shipping Line and remamed Emirates Pearl for deployment on its CIS China-India service to replace the 4,250-TEU Jpo Vela. ESL runs the service in partnership with OOCL and APL, which markets the loop as CIX. Emirates Shipping Line  provides one of the six vessels on this service. The new containership is 255.10 m in length with a breadth of 37.3 m and has reefer plugs for 600 containers.

Companies, organisations and individuals that have championed high standards and quality in shipping issues have been honoured in the annual Seatrade Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards. The awards, recognising maritime safety and the environment, ship and port operations and efficiency, security and financing, were presented at a gala dinner attended by around 600 senior executives of the region’s maritime and related industries at Al Johara Ballroom, Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai, on Thursday.

Emirates Shipping Line launches its First Services in India

The first sailing of the new container carrier Emirates Shipping Line will be from Colombo on May 24, 2006, marking the launch of the services and operations of the company. Subject to FMC approval, the launch of the new service - Indus Express (IDX) is in partnership with several key partners where Emirates Shipping Line will provide two 3,000 TEU ships out of eight. The port rotation of the new IDX service is: Colombo, Tuticorin, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Barcelona, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Barcelona, Colombo. Vikas Khan, CEO of Emirates Shipping Line, said that the sailing marks the first step in building a comprehensive network of services connecting strategic commercial and trading centres around the world.
