Golden Energy Offshore Looking to Power Vessels with Hydrogen

Norwegian offshore vessel operator Golden Energy Offshore has signed a letter of intent with Gen2 Energy to explore the use and availability of hydrogen-based fuel on vessels in its fleet."We hope that Golden Energy Offshore and Gen2 Energy together can find zero-emissions solutions that are attractive to our customers and capable of being implemented both on existing vessels in the fleet and newbuilds. The markets we are serving are increasingly demanding the most environmentally friendly solutions as using hydrogen, including methanol and ammonia.

Crowley and Shell Partner on Maritime Decarbonization

Kotug to Install Shift's PwrSwäp Batteries

KOTUG International B.V. and Shift Clean Energy announced the formation of a partnership to use Shift’s new PwrSwäp clean energy service—which uses swappable batteries on a pay-as-you-go basis—on KOTUG’s E-Pusher vessels.The signing of the MoU coincides with COP26 in Glasgow, where reducing global greenhouse gases (GHGs) is at the top of the agenda. The combined services support the maritime industry in reaching this goal today, without requiring any upfront capital costs and at competitive rates, the partners said.Shift’s technologies provide a ready to market pay-as-you-go service.

Norway on Jan. 1, 2026, will begin a ban on cruise ships powering through the Unesco-listed heritage fjords on anything but zero-emissions propulsion. For now, that means battery power, but few of the 190 cruise ship calls to these fjords are made with that kind of electro-chemical fuel on board. Corvus Energy Ramps-up Maritime Battery Production

Canada-based Corvus Energy has announced that its fully automated factory in Norway and semi-automated factory in Canada will increase production capacity eight-fold.The manufacturer of energy storage solutions for marine, oil and gas, and port applications revealed the plans for a new fully automated factory for maritime batteries in Bergen, Norway in a press release."We are proud to announce that contracts for the factory location and the production equipment were finalized and signed this week. Shell, Rolls-Royce, MAN Ink LNGi Deal

DNV GL’s new LNG intelligence portal (LNGi) aims to bring stakeholders from across the LNG industry together to share market intelligence and contribute to the uptake of LNG as a ship fuel. Leading LNG suppliers and engine manufacturers including, Shell, the Marine division of Rolls-Royce and MAN will be some of the first companies to use LNGi. The portal, which was launched today, allows subscribers to assess the availability of LNG fuel for specific trade routes and newbuild projects. It also provides information about current market developments, as well as status updates of other alternative fuels and emissions reduction technologies across every vessel segment.

Cat 3500 Series Emissions Kits Get EPA Cert.

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems and Caterpillar Emissions Solutions announced that the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has certified Cat 3500 Series Marine Emissions Kits according to EPA Rule 40 CFR Part 1042. This Marine Remanufacture Program applies to many commercial engines flagged or registered in the United States, and the requirements include a 25 percent particulate matter reduction at overhaul. By replacing the mechanical unit injector (MUI) system and other associated components on the engine, the upgrade kits offer vessel owners an in-hull solution that exceeds the requirements, and offers operational benefits.

Product: GE M&SP Makes Strong Maritime Push

GE Transportation Systems, Marine & Stationary Power (M&SP), is making a strong push to capture medium-speed diesel engine business in the maritime sector, fortifying an international network of service centers and bringing its product to center stage at many of the Autumn 2003 trade exhibition. GE Transportation Systems has is the market leader in the locomotive business, with 85 percent of its annual production targeted to this business. While marine business has not accounted for a large percent of its overall business to date, its medium-speed diesel engine capability is considerable. In the rail business, no one looks at the engine for 90 days, whereas in the marine and stationary sectors, the engines are pampered, said Tina Donikowski, General Manager Propulsion & Specialty Services.

Krystallon Launch New System for Measuring Emissions

September 25, 2006: Krystallon, a world leader in emissions solutions specialising in abatement technology for the commercial shipping industry, has developed a new emissions monitoring system for use in the marine industry. The combination of quantum cascade laser (QCL) technology, a system designed for detecting drugs, explosives and hazardous compounds, and Krystallon’s seawater scrubbing technology, will allow operators to measure SOx and NOx and CO2 emissions more quickly, accurately and cost-effectively. The system, developed by Cascade, uses QCL technology to detect gases in the air. The electronic 'nose' detects gases emitted, producing a chemical 'fingerprint' to identify the substance.
