GTT, Endel Team-up to Roll-out Membrane Containment Systems

21 June 2016. GTT and the Endel company1 reaffirmed their collaboration in the area of LNG as a marine fuel, following the recent signature of a Technical Assistance and License Agreement (TALA) for the construction of GTT membrane containment systems. In the framework of this agreement, Endel created a mock-up of a Mark III type GTT membrane system. This partnership reinforces GTT's and Endel's product offering, and benefits clients wishing to equip their vessels with LNG membrane tanks adapted to all types of vessels, such as liners, container vessels, bulk carriers, and RO/RO vessels. GDF SUEZ sign collaboration agreement with 4 companies to develop the Raz Blanchard, Normandy pilot installation. Marine current power allows the energy from tide movements to be exploited. This energy source has the advantages of long-term predictability and strong energy density, given that water is 830 times denser than air. Therefore, for an equivalent installed capacity, the rotor of a marine turbine only measures 18 meters in diameter whereas a wind turbine measures 50 m.

QM2 Accident Claims 15 Lives

French prosecutors have begun investigating Saturday’s shipyard accident on Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 that has left 15 dead and at least 32 injured after a gangway collapsed in Saint Nazaire in France. It is said that an inquiry will examine the cause of the gangway that collapsed when families of the ship workers were visiting the vessel. The collapse of the walkway caused victims to fall some 80 feet to the concrete of the drydock. Reports are indicating that the temporary 30-ft. walkway connecting the quayside of the ship was constructed by the French firm, Endel.
