BOEM Taps Doug Boren to Lead Pacific Office

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) announced Doug Boren has been appointed as the new regional director for the agency’s Pacific Office in Camarillo, Calif. Boren will be responsible for managing the development of energy and mineral resources on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) offshore California, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii.“Doug has many years of service with BOEM, working on aspects of OCS energy and minerals programs at the regional, national and international levels,” said BOEM Director Amanda Lefton.

Triad, EMP Join Forces

As part of its product rollout strategy Eco Marine Power (EMP) announced today that it has signed a support agreement with Theodosiou Bros Ltd (TRIAD Ltd) of Piraeus, Greece. This agreement between EMP and TRIAD Ltd will lead to the establishment of a technical support hub in Greece from which the companies will be able to provide jointly, a variety of technical services related to EMP's products and solutions. In particular EMP and TRIAD Ltd will now be able to offer a wide range of services and solutions to shipping companies looking to include renewable energy solutions as part of their strategy to reduce vessel emissions and lower fuel costs.

New Framework for Wind Energy Assessments

The new framework document, developed over two years in collaboration with leading consultants and developers, will lead to more transparency and advancements in the quantification of project losses and uncertainties says DNV KEMA. Various entities in the Renewable UK Wind Resource Working Group have come together to propose that the wind industry adopt a common framework for discussing both energy losses and uncertainties around energy assessments. GL Garrad Hassan Opens Cape Town Office

To support the developers and financiers of South Africa's burgeoning wind power industry GL Garrad Hassan opened its first office in the Rainbow Nation, in Cape Town on 1 January 2012. South Africa is ideally suited for renewable energy development, given its abundant wind and solar resources, ample number of suitable sites and modern high voltage electrical infrastructure. GL Garrad Hassan as Wind Power Forecaster

In order to manage wind generation in its real-time and day-ahead markets, the system operator for the New England area of the U.S., ISO New England Inc., has awarded GL Garrad Hassan a two-year contract to provide wind power forecasting services to all wind in the ISO’s footprint, including generation within the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. GL Garrad Hassan is in the beginning stages of this project for the ISO, with plans to begin first forecast delivery in 2012. Accurate forecasting is the key to the management of any generation source that inherently depends on the variability of the weather, requiring advanced short-term prediction of  generation to make it approach the manageability of conventional electricity sources.
