OMSA Announces New Board Members

Career Moves: US Offshore Wind Powering Up

In addition to wind, offshore wind demands human energy, individuals with knowledge and skills first to build and then operate and maintain the dozens of projects required to meet President Biden’s 2030 goal of 30 GW of offshore generation. In an October 2022 National Renewable Energy Laboratory report – “U.S. Offshore Wind Workforce Assessment” – the authors estimate that it will require, on average, between 15,000 and 58,000 employees annually, depending on domestic content scenarios, to build out a huge new wind machine.Mariners and mariner training are integral to offshore wind.

Henshaw Named Connecticut Port Authority Executive Director

The Connecticut Port Authority (CPA) approved the appointment of John Henshaw as its new executive director, effective September 8, 2020.Henshaw comes to the CPA after serving as the executive director of the Maine Port Authority for over 10 years and after serving as commissioner for the Board of Harbor Commissioners for the Port of Portland.He was selected for the position following an extensive search by the CPA board for a candidate with a specific set of skills and experience.

KOMIPO, Petronas Ink LNG MoU

Korea Midland Power (KOMIPO) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on business development and cooperation in the fields of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and renewable energy with global energy company Petronas of Malaysia, the state-run power company saidThe MoU was signed on 18 September 2019 in Houston, Texas. Signing on behalf of Petronas LNG Ltd (PLL) was its Chairman, Ahmad Adly Alias while KOMIPO was represented by Park Hyung Koo, President and CEO. VA Offshore Wind: A Strong Foundation

Virginia officials have established a well-planned, extensive strategy to build out an offshore wind industry, including wind towers for electricity generation and the supply chain to support that extensive infrastructure and operations. The State’s big picture is ambitious: developing 2,000 MW of offshore wind by 2028.As currently envisioned, VA’s offshore wind development will likely start this year with two 8-megawatt wind turbines 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. This is a Dominion Energy pilot undertaken in partnership with the Danish wind company Orsted.

NOIA President Randall Luthi issued a statement in response to President Obama’s 2015 State of the Union Address, stating that the President missed a few key points regarding domestic onshore and offshore energy production and supply, and its impact on the U.S. economy. "While the President highlighted America's energy renaissance in his address to Congress tonight, he failed to note that the increase in the supply of American-made energy is occurring on state and private lands, not the federal lands under his control,” Luthi said.

GE Oil & Gas, Rosneft, to Pursue Russian Energy Opportunities

Under the terms of the MOU, GE and Rosneft will form a joint working group to identify the range of potential opportunities for short and long–term opportunities, including equipment for Arctic offshore field development, gas monetization technologies and enhanced oil recovery and difficult reserve development. The MOU was signed by John Krenicki, GE vice chairman and president and CEO of GE Energy; and Igor Sechin, president of Rosneft. The agreement calls for a strategic, cooperative relationship that would (1) leverage GE Oil & Gas technologies to help Rosneft improve efficiency and yields in its oil and gas exploration and recovery operations, and (2) explore opportunities to jointly develop, manufacture and sell equipment for use in Russia’s oil and gas industry.

Event Highlights Opportunities In Marine Energy For North Companies

Businesses will have the chance to learn more about the marine energy opportunities for the Orkney and Pentland Firth waters at an event in Caithness on Tuesday 5 April. Organised jointly by North Scotland Industries Group (NSIG), Caithness Chamber of Commerce, Orkney Islands Council, The Crown Estate and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the event is open to members and non-members and will be held at North Highland College, Thurso from 10am to 4.30pm. Growth in Offshore Wind Projects in Prospect

A new study of the worldwide prospects for offshore renewable energy recently commissioned by the U.K.’s Department of Trade & Industry from energy analysts, Douglas-Westwood Associates (DWA), has identified 77 proposed offshore wind power projects totaling over 13,000 MW of generating capacity. In the opening address to delegates at the second annual ‘All-Energy Opportunities’ conference in Aberdeen, DWA partner John Westwood stated that prospects on screen had increased from 22 in 2001, to 77 in 2002 - “a remarkable growth in such a short period”. DWA analyst Katharine Evans said that their models indicated that if realized these projects could require some 4,000 km of underwater power cables.
