BMT Group  (previously British Maritime Technology) announced that it has been awarded the Engineering, Logistics, and Management Support 2 (ELMS2) contract by the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND).According to the provider of focused solutions to projects in the energy, ports, mining, defense and transport fields, the services will directly support the Director General Maritime Equipment Program Management (DGMEPM) and the Director General Major Project Delivery (DGMPD) (Sea).Under this contract, BMT will continue to provide risk, due diligence and engineering services for Capital and National Procurement (NP) programs on an ‘as-and-when’ requested basis to support Canada’s naval fleet requirements for the next fifteen years.Darcy Byrtus…

Mammoet signed an agreement to join the world’s first port and maritime industry start-up accelerator, PortXL, said a press release.This partnership enables Mammoet to collaborate with established businesses and start-ups active in the maritime sector – working in energy, ports, refineries, shipping and logistics – in an atmosphere of creativity, collaboration and a shared determination to make positive change within the industry.According to the release, experts from Mammoet will provide specialist support to entrepreneurs and innovative thinkers. Likewise, existing initiatives within Mammoet will benefit from the input of external specialists and entrepreneurs.

ELA Container Offshore GmbH said it has delivered two offshore living quarters to Belgium based G-Tec Offshore s.a. The containers were placed on board of the multipurpose drilling vessel MV Omalius off the coast of France. The solution on deck turned out to be very successful as the units have also been used for other projects since then. Currently the MV Omalius is working in the construction phase of the Merkur wind farm, located approximately 45km north of the islands of Borkum, Germany where GeoSea, Belgian Deme Group’s ’s specialist will realize the construction of Merkur Offshore.

The mantra of recent times has been the worldwide trend to ‘mega’. Mega container ships created the need for mega ports which required mega dredging projects. These in turn demand mega dredging vessels. All this is true but disregards another development: the consolidation of the major dredging contractors into larger companies with long-term strategies that have resulted in diversification. Today’s major dredging contractors do more than dredge. They are partners in the development of a project.

BAM International has completed its €65 million project to construct the Aqaba LNG terminal for Aqaba Development Corp. (ADC). The operating company of Royal BAM Group handed over the project on 23 June, two months ahead of schedule. The LNG terminal forms part of ADC’s plan for developing Aqaba’s energy ports. The government has tasked ADC to develop Jordan’s energy intake capabilities to ensure a consistent supply of energy. In partnership with sister company BAM Contractors from Ireland and Jordan’s engineering company MAG, BAM International designed, built and commissioned an LNG jetty with approach trestle, including the mechanical, engineering and piping services, buildings, infrastructure works and tug jetty berth for attending tugs within 17 months.

China and India signed deals worth more than $22 billion in areas including renewable energy, ports, financing and industrial parks, an Indian embassy official said on Saturday. Namgya C. Citing it as a major victory for ports, the American Association of Port Authorities is hailing passage in the U.S. House today of H.R. 3080, the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA). The U.S. Senate will vote on the bill this Thursday, where easy passage is expected. Port Fourchon may be a tiny spot on the Louisiana coast, but it looms large as a place that could harm the nation's energy supply for weeks or months, the Louisiana Ledger reported. The port is located at the end of a spit of land on the edge of Louisiana, wide open to waves, tides and storm surge. It is connected to the mainland by a two-lane ribbon of a highway lands. A major bridge on that highway is so old and its base so scoured that a good hit from a large ship could knock it out of commission. The port is home of a multitude of oil and gas support services that keep as much as 90 percent of the Gulf of Mexico's deepwater oil and gas wells running, along with 50 percent of the wells closer to shore.
