Kalypso, Royal IHC Partner to Build US' First Jones Act Cable Layer for Offshore Wind
New York-based Kalypso Offshore Energy on Monday announced it is teaming up with Dutch marine technology group and shipbuilder Royal IHC to design and construct a Jones Act compliant cable lay vessel (CLV)—the first purpose-built for the U.S. offshore wind market.Under a newly signed letter of intent (LOI), the partners are working together to finalize contract, engineering and construction details to domestically produce a 5,000-ton CLV for anticipated delivery in 2028. Arctic Holds Boatloads of Shipping Potential
The Arctic region is notorious for relentlessly harsh climates that make shipping operations grueling. But despite the many limitations these conditions present, Leiv Lunde, Director, Fridtjof Nansen Institue, says the outlook is optimistic for the Arctic maritime industry 10-20 years down the road. Lunde presented “Asia’s Rise, Arctic Change and Energy Trade: Myths, Realities and Implications for the Shipping Industry” at the 26th annual Marine Money Week in New York on Wednesday June 19. He painted a fairly bright picture for potential maritime developments in the frigid region.
Event Highlights Opportunities In Marine Energy For North Companies
Businesses will have the chance to learn more about the marine energy opportunities for the Orkney and Pentland Firth waters at an event in Caithness on Tuesday 5 April. Organised jointly by North Scotland Industries Group (NSIG), Caithness Chamber of Commerce, Orkney Islands Council, The Crown Estate and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE), the event is open to members and non-members and will be held at North Highland College, Thurso from 10am to 4.30pm.
