Eastern Partners with Royal IHC to Build USACE Hopper Dredge

U.S. shipbuilder Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc (ESG) on Wednesday announced it is teaming up with Dutch shipbuilding group Royal IHC to design and construct a highly automated hopper dredge for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).The diesel-electric vessel, contracted for the Department of Defense, will be constructed at ESG's Allanton and Port St. Joe facilities in Florida for scheduled delivery in 2027.The new 6,000-cubic-yard-capacity medium-class hopper dredge (MCHD) will be based at the Corps’ Philadelphia District…

Kongsberg to Design and Equip Sirius Rederi's New Chemical Tanker Pair

Kongsberg Maritime on Monday announced it has won a contract to supply design, engineering, and equipment for two MGO/biofuel and methanol-ready chemical tankers for Swedish tanker operator Sirius Rederi AB. The low emission 15,000dwt tanker vessels will feature a range of Kongsberg Maritime equipment and can operate on battery-powered hybrid propulsion. Options for further vessels are included.This latest contract builds on a current nine-ship program with fellow Swedish owner Terntank, with a similar design and equipment package.

Royal IHC Ships Equipment for Weeks' New Hopper Dredge

A shipment of Royal IHC's equipment is traveling from Europe to the U.S. to be installed on Weeks Marine's new trailing suction hopper dredge (TSHD) R.B. Weeks, currently under construction at Eastern Shipbuilding Group's Allanton shipyard in Florida. In May of 2020, Royal IHC and Weeks Marine Inc. entered into a contract for the engineering and equipment delivery for the 6,540-cubic-meter-capacity newbuild, an identical vessel to the Magdalen delivered to Weeks from Eastern in 2017. Partners Set Out to Develop Hydrogen-powered Tugs

Norwegian engineering and equipment company TECO 2030 ASA said it has signed a letter of intent with Austrian-based powertrain deveolper AVL List GmbH and Dutch shipping company Chemgas Shipping B.V. for the use of fuel cell technology as the main energy source for tugboats in the Blue Danube hydrogen project and similar projects.The Blue Danube project is among Europe’s most ambitious hydrogen projects. Calcasieu Pass LNG Facility Gets $1.3bln

US liquefied natural gas (LNG) developer Venture Global LNG has signed a deal with investment firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners for a $1.3bn equity investment in the Calcasieu Pass LNG export facility.Calcasieu Pass  project is a 10 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) liquefied natural gas project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. - giving the LNG project a major financial boost as construction starts. VA Offshore Wind: A Strong Foundation

Virginia officials have established a well-planned, extensive strategy to build out an offshore wind industry, including wind towers for electricity generation and the supply chain to support that extensive infrastructure and operations. The State’s big picture is ambitious: developing 2,000 MW of offshore wind by 2028.As currently envisioned, VA’s offshore wind development will likely start this year with two 8-megawatt wind turbines 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. This is a Dominion Energy pilot undertaken in partnership with the Danish wind company Orsted.

Shipbuilders Fincantieri & CSSC Extend Partnership

Cargotec, JCE Invest AB Form Joint Bulk Business

Cargotec has signed an agreement with JCE Invest AB to establish a joint venture, Bruks Siwertell Group, specialised in dry bulk handling. The new joint venture will own Siwertell AB (previously part of Kalmar Business Area within Cargotec) and BRUKS Holding AB (previously part of JCE Group). Both companies are world-leading suppliers of bulk materials handling solutions. Cargotec will own 48% of the shares in Bruks Siwertell Group, and JCE Invest AB will own the rest, 52%. The ownerships are included to venturers' consolidated financial statements in accordance with the applicable regulation. The transaction has been signed and closed on 9 May 2018. "This joint venture supports Cargotec's strategy to focus on container ports, heavy industrial segment and logistics.

First Icebreaking LNG Carrier Ready for Service

The world’s first icebreaking liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, Christophe de Margerie, has berthed at the gas terminal at Sabetta Port in Russia, becoming the first vessel to do so. Heavy LIfting: Moving Modules for Brazilian FPSO

On April 6, Mammoet, a service provider specializing in engineered heavy lifting and transport, completed a load-out of the first set of four modules bound for the FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading) P66 vessel. This is the first of eight FPSOs currently under construction for oil production in Brazil. The end client, TUPI BV, is a consortium composed of Petrobras Netherlands BV (PNBV, 65 percent), the British Gas Group (BG Group, 25 percent) and Galp Energia S.A. (10 percent), working on the ongoing development of the Lula Alto field, located in the Santos Basin, Brazil.

Beacon Finland Appoints Rio Marine for US Support

Beacon Finland, a maritime-related firm engaged in naval architecture, marine engineering and equipment, has appointed Rio Marine to service its JAK-ATB coupling systems in the U.S.   Tuija Horkko, Beacon Finland’s Chairman, said Rio Marine will become the exclusive company to provide 24/7/365 service for its JAK coupling systems for the tug/barge industry. Rio Marine will maintain an extensive inventory of JAK spare parts and will provide service which will include electrical, electronics, hydraulic and mechanical systems. Rio Marine’s President Ronald Dansby also reported that the company will open a new service center in Staten Island, N.Y. to support tugs and barges, as well as JAK systems along the U.S. East Coast.

INMEX SMM India Finds its Footing

The impressive response to the INMEX SMM India 2015 that was officially opened yesterday by Deepak Shetty, Director General of Shipping, Government of India, seems to be a clear indication that the green shoots of economic recovery are finally making their appearance in the country. For some time now there has hardly been any event including conferences and exhibitions that succeeded to break even. But the three-day INMEX SMM India now underway (23rd to 25th September 2015) at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, will certainly be something for most participants to write home about. Rohr Dredge Continues European Expansion

Rohr International Dredge Holdings, Inc. announced that it acquired Eurl Rohr France, including its current backlog, inventory and all associated intellectual property (IPR), on July 23, 2014. Rohr France, which is based in Betting, France, was a Rohr licensee and will continue at the same location, operating as a subsidiary of Rohr Bagger GmbH, a subsidiary of Rohr International Dredge Holdings, Inc. Rohr France has been a Rohr distributor and service center for over 10 years for its Land Based and Floating Bucket Ladder dredges, Clamshell dredges and conveyors to the mining industry in France. Eng. Samuel Pichowska will be the new General Manager for Rohr France and comes to Rohr France from Hazemag, a provider of engineering and equipment solutions for the mineral processing industry.

Norway's Kvaerner and China's COOEC form Joint Venture

China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) and Norway's Kvaerner are setting up a joint venture in China to conduct oil engineering projects worldwide in the second international cooperation deal for the Chinese firm in six months. In December last year COOEC set up a joint venture with French oil services group Technip to provide engineering and equipment for deepwater oilfields off China. "Kvaerner will bring international management, tools and working methods while COOEC is providing a team of experienced offshore engineers," Zhou Xuezhong, president and CEO of COOEC, said in a statement. In April the firms signed a 10-year strategic cooperation agreement to develop business projects together in the oil sector. The new company will be based in Qingdao, Shandong province.

Seatankers Receives Third Ulstein-designed PSV

The third Ulstein designed platform supply vessel of the PX105 design for Seatankers, Sea Forth, was delivered on August 16, 2013 from the Zhejiang yard in Ningbo. Ulstein delivers twelve design and equipment packages to the Chinese yard, where all the vessels for Seatankers Group will be constructed. The packages include design, engineering and equipment supplies. The ships comply with the DNV requirements of the Clean or Clean Design standards. The ship is designed with the patented X-BOW hull line design.

Seatankers Takes PSV Delivery

On January 27, 2014, three weeks after the last delivery in the Seatankers twelve series, Zhejiang delivered the seventh platform supply ship, Sea Spider, to the Seatankers Group. All twelve PSVs are designed by Ulstein. Sinopacific’s Zhejiang yard in Ningbo, China, entered into a contract with Ulstein for the delivery of twelve design packages for platform support vessels of the PX105 design for Seatankers Group. The first delivery was in Q1 2013. The PX105 designed vessels are considered as large PSVs.
