Construction of Taiwan's Formosa 2, an offshore wind power (OWP) development project, officially broke ground in Miaoli County.Orsted Taiwan said in a statement that it held a ground-breaking ceremony for the onshore substation works for the 900MW Greater Changhua 1&2a offshore wind farm off Taiwan.Ørsted awarded an onshore substation EPC contract to TCC last November. TCC will build two onshore substations, cable corridors, and transition joint bays for the first 900MW Greater Changhua projects. The contract, with an amount over NTD 7bn, is being now executed by Star Energy Corporation (SEC), a 100% subsidiary of TCC.SEC has hired more than 60 additional employees since last year.

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has won an order for providing classification services for a series of 8 Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvettes to be constructed for the Indian Navy. The order was awarded under competitive bidding in which other classification societies participated, after qualifying stringent technical requirements.The ships are to be constructed at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd, Kolkata and will be built to IRClass’ Naval Rules 2015.These ships are designed for combating threats posed by submarines and special underwater craft…

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRClass) has secured a contract for the provision of classification services for four large survey vessels for the Indian Navy. These 110 meter vessels, which will be constructed by the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd., Kolkata, are the largest hydrographic survey vessels ever constructed for the Indian Navy.IRClass has also been awarded the classification services for two diving support vessels by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd., Visakhapatnam to be built for the Indian Navy.

The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has planned to retrofit its work boats with green fuel and also placed orders with Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) for procuring six new vessels, based on methanol mix.CSL will get the work done by Hooghly Dock and Port Engineers Ltd (HDPEL) in Howrah, with which it has formed a joint venture, said sources.The PTI reported that IWAI has also planned to retrofit its work boats with green fuel.The shipyard has a tie-up with Sweden based company which is a leading entity in the use of methanol for marine fuel, he said, adding that the Cochin Shipyard would retrofit boats at its facility in Kolkata.The nodal agency for inland waterways will use the clean-burning fuel for the barges sailing up National Waterway 1…

Shares of India's Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd fell on their market debut on Wednesday after the company raised 3.4 billion rupees ($45.81 million) at its initial public offering earlier this month.The company's stock dropped as much as 12.9 percent to 102.80 rupees in early trade, but later rose to 107 rupees, or down 9.32 percent, at 0432 GMT versus its issue price of 118 rupees.The broader Nifty index was up 1 percent.The IPO of the state-owned shipbuilders was covered 1.02 times at its close.($1 = 74.2175 Indian rupees)(Reporting by Swati Bhat; Editing by Rashmi Aich)

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE)  is trying to get a toehold in the international market, eyeing orders worth $425 million to supply warships to the navies of the Philippines and Vietnam. A Kolkata-based shipyard will enter into the global warship market by bidding to the navies of the Philippines and Vietnam in the coming months, according to a report from Indian Express. Garden Reach Ship Builders will be competing with European and Korean firms in the run-up to the `2,000 crore tenders, to supply two frigates to the Philippines navy. Garden Reach Ship Builders  officials claim that negotiations are underway with the Vietnamese navy to supply four warships worth `600 crore.

For enhancing the draft in ports or undertaking major dredging projects, India still relies on foreign dredging giants, a situation not likely to change unless the government comes out with a policy encouraging investment in the dredging industry. European dredging giants continue to make a clean sweep of all major Indian dredging projects, a market condition largely attributed to the lack of an environment conducive to encouraging Indian companies into large scale dredging. After Mazagon Dock Ltd, two more defence ministry-controlled shipyards are looking for private partners to build warships to meet rising demand from the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard, according to a report on www.LiveMint.com. Hindustan Shipyard Ltd and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd reportedly have received expressions of interest from 8-10 private shipyards in response to tenders floated last month. While separately inviting expressions of interest for joint venture partnerships last month, the two shipbuilders said in similarly worded advertisements on their websites that they were “looking at a joint collaborative strategy to meet the challenging timelines in order to liquidate the existing order book as well as expected orders from the Indian Navy and Coast Guard…
