Stena Exploring Dual-fuel Diesel/methanol with MAN, Proman

Engines manufacturer MAN Energy Solutions said it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Stena Teknik – Stena’s inhouse R&D division – and Proman – the world’s second largest methanol producer – regarding their mutual cooperation on a project to retrofit MAN 48/60 engines to make them capable of dual-fuel, diesel and methanol operation.The move comes as ship owners and operators explore alternative fuels such as methanol to help reduce their environmental impacts.

Fairbanks Morse Names Clark COO

U.S.-based engines manufacturer Fairbanks Morse said Monday it has named Michael Clark its new chief operating officer. Clark will guide the company’s operations, engineering, supply chain and program management departments. He will also be responsible for the company’s environmental health and safety (EHS) initiatives.“Michael is a transformational leader dedicated to continuous process improvement,” said George Whittier, CEO of Fairbanks Morse, a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management.

Rolls-Royce Gains EPA Tier 4 Certification for mtu Marine Propulsion Systems

U.K.-based equipment and engines manufacturer Rolls-Royce said it has received U.S. EPA Tier 4 certification for its mtu propulsion systems based on its Series 4000 M65L 16-cylinder diesel engines.EPA Tier 4 regulations are considered the most stringent emissions standard for marine applications, requiring the propulsion system to have very low particulate and nitrogen oxide emissions throughout its lifecycle."This means we have climbed to the king's class of emissions regulations with our engines for yachts and commercial vessels…

Fairbanks Morse Wins USCG Engine Service Contract

Engines manufacturer Fairbanks Morse said it has been awarded a six-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). Svitzer Inks Global Services Deal with Caterpillar Marine

Engines manufacturer Caterpillar announced Tuesday it has signed a global services agreement with the the world’s largest tug operator, Svitzer, covering more than 100 vessels powered by Cat Marine engines in 30-plus countries. At a signing ceremony on June 1 at the Nor-Shipping trade fair in Norway, engines manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo signed a cooperation agreement with ship equipment supplier MM-Offshore. The impetus for the agreement stems from industry efforts to enhance ship performance. Mercury Marine develops and manufactures technology designed to enhance the boating experience. The marine engines manufacturer recently teamed up with Belzona boats to “Go Boldly” on the water with former University of Wyoming basketball star and lifelong boating enthusiast Nichole Rider. “My dad bought a power boat when I was five years old; it just changed my life,” Rider said. But while in college, Rider was involved in a near-fatal car accident. Doctors told her family that she had little chance to survive the first night, and if she did, she would be paralyzed.

Cummins Delivers First QSK95 Engines

Manufacturer of diesel engines and generator sets for the marine industry Cummins Inc. said it recently delivered the first four QSK95 engines for a marine application, with four additional units to be delivered in December. The engines were delivered to longtime Cummins partner SEACOR Marine Holdings Inc. for installation into a 57-meter catamaran crewboat designed by Incat Crowther. “We are extremely excited to be working with SEACOR Marine to launch the first QSK95 marine engines,” said Jim Schacht, Executive Director - Marine Market, Cummins Inc.

Matson Orders Engines for New Containerships

Matson Navigation Company, Inc., a U.S. carrier in the Pacific Ocean, announced an order today for two MAN B&W, 7S90ME-GI dual fuel engines with liquefied natural gas (LNG) capability to be installed aboard two new “Aloha Class” 3,600 TEU containerships ordered last week from with Aker Philadelphia Shipyard Inc. (APSI). The deal includes an option for three further vessels. The dual fuel engines, each developing 42,700 kW, are reportedly the largest ever ordered in terms of power output.

IZAR Manises Tests, Delivers Mitsubishi Engine

Manises Propulsion and Energy, IZAR’s two stroke diesel engines factory has tested and delivered a Mitsubishi engine of 8,670 kW at 127 rpm, that will be assembled in the 25,000 tons chemical ship, that is being built in the Turkish shipyard Celik Tekne for the Italian shipowner Mediterranea di Navigazione. This comissioning is an important milestone for Izar-Manises Propusion and Energy, because it is the only licensee of Mitsubishi in Europe and because this engine is the first Mitsubishi engine delivered in Europe.
