Crowley said its Ocean Class tugboats are now equipped to connect to shore power at the Port of Lake Charles in Louisiana.Shore power infrastructure from Entergy Services, Inc. will allow Crowley's vessels to connect to electricity when not in service instead of running on diesel-fueled generators.The result will be an estimated reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by more than 500 metric tons per year, Crowley said.The Jacksonville, Fla. based shipping and logistics firm in 2021 announced its commitment to achieve net-zero emissions across its operations by 2050.

Damage to oil production facilities in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico kept output largely halted on Sunday, a week after Hurricane Ida made landfall, according to offshore regulator the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE).Energy companies have been coping with damaged platforms and onshore power outages and logistical issues, slowing efforts to restart production. Some 88% of crude oil output and 83% of natural gas production remained suspended.About 1.6 million barrels of crude oil remained offline, with only about 100,000 barrels added since Saturday.

Downed power lines blocking a segment of the Mississippi River since Hurricane Ida made landfdall on Sunday are expected to be removed on Friday afternoon by Entergy Corp, allowing for vessel traffic in the area, the New Orleans Board of Trade said.More than 20 vessels were moving northbound on the Mississippi River on Friday after portions of the waterway reopened on Thursday. Anchorages in Louisiana between Burnside and Baton Rouge were expected to fill quickly, the NOBT said.But a long portion of the waterway, between miles 105 and 167 remained shut to vessel traffic.

Widespread flooding from Hurricane Ida and power outages slowed efforts on Tuesday by energy firms to assess damages at oil production facilities, ports, and refineries.Nearly all of Louisiana lost electrical power on Monday after one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit the region downed transmission lines and flooded communities. Coastal areas were swamped by a storm surge so great it reversed the flow of the Mississippi River.Analysts said it could take two to three weeks to restart producing platforms and fully resume output at Louisiana refineries.

More than half a dozen liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers were waiting to enter U.S. export plants in the Gulf of Mexico as Hurricane Delta marches toward the Gulf Coast.Most tankers were located outside of Cheniere Energy Inc’s Sabine Pass and Cameron LNG’s Cameron plants in Louisiana, according to data from Refinitiv. There were also a few outside of Freeport LNG’s Freeport plant in Texas.Delta is expected to slam into central Louisiana as a major hurricane on Friday, putting the storm closer to Cameron than Sabine.

Industry veteran Terry Samona has been named Vice President of Human Resources at Viega LLC.Samona oversees human resources management and development at Viega’s operations in the U.S., including headquarters and a seminar center in Broomfield, Colo.; a manufacturing plant and distribution hub in McPherson, Kan.; three additional distribution centers in Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania; and a seminar center in Nashua, N.H.Samona’s entire career has been in human resources. Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced that Adm. Kirkland H. Donald, U.S. Navy (Ret.), has been elected to its Board of Directors, effective Jan. 1, 2017. Donald retired from the U.S. Navy in 2013 after 37 years of service. In his last assignment as the director, Naval Nuclear Propulsion, he was responsible for the safe and effective operation of the Navy’s nuclear propulsion program, which today includes all submarines and aircraft carriers. After retiring from the Navy, Donald joined Systems Planning and Analysis, Inc.

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans has elected Daniel F. Packer chairman; also Gregory Rusovich as Vice Chairman, and Scott Cooper as Secretary-Treasurer. Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed Mr. Packer to the Board in January of 2010. He succeeds Mr. Joseph F. Toomy, whose term as chairman expired this month but will continue to serve as a commissioner. The board of commissioners for the Port of Greater Baton Rouge recently elected officers for 2009. Officers elected include Alvin Dragg, Ascension, president; Raymond Loup, West Baton Rouge, vice president; Jerald Juneau, East Baton Rouge, treasurer; and Larry Johnson, West Baton Rouge, secretary. Dragg, who was elected president, represents Ascension Parish on the board of commissioners and has served two terms as president previously over the past two decades. He is a life-long resident of Gonzales and is a former Entergy Corporation executive.

Tidewater Inc. announced that Nancy Morovich has joined Tidewater as senior vice president. Morovich, who will report to Chairman, President and CEO Dean Taylor, will be responsible for strategic planning and analysis activities required to support the company's growth and business development initiatives, including potential mergers and acquisitions. She will also oversee Tidewater's information technology activities, and be involved in corporate compliance efforts. Morovich joins Tidewater following a 15 year career with Entergy Corporation where she held various positions in the finance organization. In her most recent position as Vice President, Planning and Financial Communications, she oversaw strategic planning, corporate planning and investor relations activities.

HOUSTON - The Coast Guard Captain of the Port has reopened waterways in and around Texas, Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico with some restrictions. The Houston Ship Channel is open to all tug and barge traffic, daylight transit only. The channel is also open to vessels drafting less than 35 feet. The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GICW) is open to all tug and barge traffic, daylight transit only, from mile marker (MM) 277 to MM 350 and from MM248 (Devall West Fleet) to MM 266. The Calcasieu, Neches and Sabine Rivers are open to tug and barge traffic, daylight transit only, with the exception of the Calcasieu River to Cameron. Entergy repair personnel and Coast Guard personnel are working to remove a downed power line in the vicinity of MM 268 of the GICW.
