Alion Awarded $43 Million to Support Navy Tests
To assist the Navy’s Commander Operational Test and Evaluation Force (COMOPTEVFOR) program with effective planning, conducting and reporting of operational test and evaluation tasks, Alion Science and Technology, a global engineering, technology and operational solutions company, has been awarded a $43 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity omnibus contract. Alion will compete for task orders to provide critical operational test and evaluation analytical support to COMOPTEVFOR. The work will range from performing acquisition system documentation reviews to developing integrated evaluation frameworks, test plans and reports across the full range of Navy programs.
Stiletto Maritime Demonstration Program hosts Capability Demonstration
The Stiletto Maritime Demonstration Program conducted its first Capability Demonstration, Jan. 14-27. The initial demonstration was hosted for the Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) off the Virginia coast near the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Va. USS Freedom Closer to Maiden Deployment
The Navy's first littoral combat ship (LCS), USS Freedom (LCS 1), has successfully completed another major milestone in preparation for her upcoming maiden deployment. Demonstration, Littoral Warfighting Capabilities
A Northrop Grumman Corp. (NYSE:NOC)-led team has successfully demonstrated the integration of the AN/SPQ-9B radar and Naval Expeditionary Overwatch (NEO) system sensor data into the Integrated Combat Management System (ICMS) at the Navy's Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) at Dam Neck, Va. The team included Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren and Harris Corporation. NEO is sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The demonstration illustrated the open architecture capabilities of ICMS to rapidly and affordably integrate both shipboard and off-board sensor data into a combat system network to support enhanced Fleet combat operations.
Navy's New Sub Class Conducts First Cruise Missile Launches
The Navy conducted multiple launches of Tomahawk cruise missiles from USS Virginia (SSN 774) in August in the as part of the program's developmental and operational testing efforts. Alion Awarded $23.1m Contract to Support COMOPTEVFOR
to support the Commander Naval Operational Test and Evaluation Force (COMOPTEVFOR). research and provide technical and analytical support for acquisition and fleet introduction decisions of naval aviation, surface, subsurface, and space systems relied on by the fleet. The contract includes a base year and four, one-year option periods, which, if exercised, would bring the total contract award to $115.5 million; the annual contract ceiling is $23.1 million. Initial work is expected to be completed by July 2008, but the contract could run until July 2012 if all options are exercised. Under the contract, work will be performed in a variety of locations in the United States with provisions for afloat and outside-of-the-continental United States locations as needed.
