Seapeak Completes Evergas Acquisition

Canadian headquartered shipowner Seapeak on Thursday announced it has completed its previously announced acquisition of Danish shipping company Evergas from France-based Jaccar Holdings.Evergas, previously comprising Greenship Gas Trust and Greenship Gas Manager, is one of the world’s leading seaborne transporters of petrochemical gases and natural gas liquids (NGL).The cash deal, worth approximately $700 million, was announced in October and will see Evergas rebrand and operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Seapeak. Evergas Names The First 85,000m3 VLEC

Danish gas ship owner Evergas announced that the worlds first Type-C 85,000m3 very large ethane carrier (VLEC) JS INEOS MARLIN was successfully delivered to INEOS Trading and Shipping.The vessel will carry ethane from US to China, said a press release from the company.The vessel has the largest Type-C tank ever made and Evergas has pushed the limit to 85000 CBM with a newly constructed Trilobe tank.The Dual-fuel Engine is over 16000 Kw from MAN Dual-fuel engines and MAN Alpha Propellers and is fueled by ethane, the vessel’s cargo.Guests at the ceremony included Godmother of the vessel Mrs. Aimee Ratcliffe, spouse of Sam Ratcliffe – INEOS and David Thompson, CEO Trading & Shipping – INEOS.

SOE Shipyard Bags Avenir LNG Newbuild Order

Bermuda registered Avenir LNG Limited has signed contracts with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) for the construction of two 7,500 cbm LNG carriers, at its Nantong, China shipyard, with options to build two more.Delivery of the two LNGC new buildings is scheduled for May and August 2021. The ships are designed to include ice class 1B, full bunker functionality, double hull and dual fuel electric twin azimuth propulsion. The order for the 7,500 cbm LNG ships replaces the previous option to build two additional ships with Keppel Singmarine which was cancelled by mutual agreement. Evergas Rolls-out Largest Ethane Carrier in the World

Evergas announced that the first 85.000cbm very large ethane carrier (VLEC) was successfully undocked in China and will be delivered in the first quarter of 2019.Following the successful undocking of the first VLEC, the steel cutting of the second vessel was celebrated in the workshop of the leading Chinese shipyard, DSIC and shows our strong commitment to the emerging ethane market.These two VLECs will be delivered to INEOS Trading & Shipping to add to their existing fleet of eight Dragon class vessels, which will enable INEOS to grow their global ethane delivery capability. INEOS to Ship US Ethane to China in 2019

U.K. chemicals firm INEOS said it has entered a long-term supply agreement with Singapore-based SP Chemicals to ship ethane from U.S. shale gas to China for the first time starting in 2019. “This is another world first for INEOS after importing shale gas to Europe in 2015,” said David Thompson, CEO of INEOS Trading and Shipping. “By bringing in U.S. The deal involves the construction of a 95,000cbm capacity Very Large Ethane Carrier (VLEC), which is expected to be the world’s largest ethane carrier upon its delivery in 2019. The VLEC will be built under the management of the JACCAR Group.

Maersk Fluid Technology Sees SEA-Mate Order Influx

Maersk Fluid Technology (MFT) has reported a recent influx of orders for its SEA-Mate Blending-on-Board (BOB) system as confirmation of industry demand for technological solutions that enable ship operators to blend fit-for-purpose cylinder lubricant compositions on board their vessels that match actual engine operating conditions and fuel sulphur levels. The use of this type of technology can reduce cylinder oil consumption and alleviate issues such as cold corrosion and excessive cylinder wear, according to MFT.

Eletson, Evergas Form Shipping Alliance

Eletson Gas and Evergas announced an alliance of the two companies that will trade the companies’ semi-ref/ethylene capable vessels. The new venture, to be called the E3 Pool, will commence trading on the 30th of January from the Eletson offices in Piraeus and London and the Evergas offices in Copenhagen and Singapore. The new commercial venture will control the 15-strong fleet of modern gas carriers that are currently trading. It will be joined by a further four vessels to be delivered to Eletson over the next twelve months and will create a single point of contact for cargo owners. Evergas Acquires 4th multigas LNG vessel

Evergas’ latest addition to its fleet, the 4 th ‘dragon class’ 27.500 cbm multigas LNG carrier in a series of eight was successfully named today the 28th of January, at a ceremony at the Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in Qidong, China. The state-of-the-art carrier was named JS INEOS INSPIRATION. The vessel bear a distinct dragon symbolizing its Chinese and Western heritage. The dragon chosen to sail and protect JS INEOS INSPIRATION is the King of Earth, reflecting patience, thoughtfulness and stability for the future ahead. The ‘Dragon’ class vessels are the largest, most flexible and advanced multigas carriers built to date.

Evergas Orders Four Ethylene Vessels

Copenhagen-headquartered gas tanker carrier Evergas has just ordered four ethylene/ethane newbuildings, with an option for two more. The contract for the four newbuildings, each sized 32,000 cu m, has also been signed by Hong Kong engineering company JHW Engineering & Contracting. Despite having dimensions similar to previous vessels, the new vessels have a bigger capacity. Evergas said it expects to start taking delivery of the carriers from the first quarter of 2018. The dual-fuelled vessels which will use LNG to power their engines “will release the LNG transportation capacity of the existing Dragon series of LNG carriers,” according to Evergas.

JHW Engineering, Evergas Ink Tanker Deal

Evergas and JHW Engineering & Contracting have entered into an agreement for the construction of four option two INEOS MAX 32,000M3 liquefied ethane/ethylene carriers. The INEOS MAX 32,000M3 liquefied ethane/ethylene carriers are expected to carry a range of innovative features specifically tailored for safe, environmentally friendly and efficient operations. The cargo capacity has been increased more than 10% by optimizing the design of cargo tanks as well as layout of ship, without changing the main dimensions compared to the latest designs of 27,500 M3 class gas carriers. The dual fuel propulsion flexibility including LNG and ethane and the optimized ECO hull design will significantly reduce emissions, and the ballast water treatment system will protect the sea water environment.

First Ethane-powered Ships Classed by Bureau Veritas

The first ethane-powered ship, JS Ineos Insight, the leading ship in a series of eight 27,500-cubic-meter multi-gas Dragon-class vessels being built at Sinopacific, China, for Denmark’s Evergas, was named on July 14. The new vessels configured for transport of ethane, LPG or LNG, with options for ethane, LNG and conventional diesel power, will be classed by classification society Bureau Veritas. “The ability to burn ethane as well as LNG to power these unique vessels is a major step forward in the use of clean fuels.

LNG Vessel with Wartsila Integrated Solutions Delivered to Evergas

The first in a series of 27,500 cbm 'Dragon' class vessels ordered by Evergas, a world renowned owner and operator of seaborne petrochemical and liquid gas transport vessels, is being delivered from the Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in China today. The vessel features a comprehensive Wärtsilä solutions package, including two Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines, Wärtsilä propulsion equipment including the gearbox, two Wärtsilä 20DF auxiliary generating sets, a Wärtsilä LNG fuel system and a Wärtsilä cargo handling system. The various systems are fully integrated to achieve maximum efficiencies. The order with Wärtsilä was placed in the beginning of 2013.

Wärtsilä 50DF Engine Operates on Ethane

The Wärtsilä 50DF marine engine has been tested and certified to run on ethane (LEG) fuel. The testing program was carried out by Wärtsilä in close collaboration with Evergas, an owner and operator of seaborne petrochemical and liquid gas transport vessels. "We are very pleased that the Wärtsilä engines will be capable of utilizing ethane boil-off gas as fuel. It increases our operational efficiency and improves flexibility in the bunkering of fuels. All in all it results in a significant reduction in operating costs, while also providing a minimal environmental footprint. It also enables us to offer our customers increased flexibility, which has a monetary value to them," said Steffen Jacobsen, the CEO of Evergas.

New CEO for Evergas

Mr. Jacobsen joined Evergas 1 February 2015 as Vice President, Fleet after almost 35 years in Maersk. He brings a wealth of leadership experience in both commercial and technical management, having amongst other positions headed Maersk Tankers fleet management for 9 years. Before that he held both operational and commercial leadership positions in Maersk Tankers, Maersk Contractors and Maersk Drilling. The Chairman of Jaccar Holdings Mr. Jacques de Chateauvieux says "I wish to thank Martin Ackermann for his leadership of Evergas through periods of financial and operational challenges as well as a period of rapid growth. He has led the company with success through this sea of changes. Martin has decided to move on and the timing is right for Evergas to have a change in leadership.

Yangzijiang Diversifies into LNG Vessel Buildiing

Getting Real on LNG Fuel

Plentiful supply, low prices and strict regulations on air pollution are fuelling a swift move towards using LNG as fuel for ship propulsion in the USA and Canada. In Europe strict regulation in port is pushing passenger ship owners to use LNG fuel while berthed. For the last two or three years the view about switching to LNG fuel was that it was a chicken and egg situation. That period is over now. The first gas bunker terminals are ready, the first small scale LNG carriers and bunker vessels are in service and the bigger projects are lining up.

Evergas & INEOS Expand Dragon Vessel Series

Evergas has reached an agreement with INEOS to expand its new-building series of ethane/multigas vessels from six to eight units. In January 2013, Evergas announced for the first time that it had secured shipping agreements of up to 15 years with INEOS for the worlds’ first transatlantic shipments of ethane with commencement in 2015. The fleet of eight vessels will bring US ethane from shale gas to INEOS’ manufacturing sites in Grangemouth, Scotland and Rafnes, Norway. This advantageously priced feedstock will have a highly positive impact for the company’s European operations that so far have relied on declining and expensive volumes from the North Sea. Furthermore it will support the company’s longevity of being a leading and cost-efficient petrochemical producer.

Jaccar Holdings & Hartmann form JV

Jaccar Holdings of Luxemburg and Hartmann Group of Leer, Germany, announce the establishment of a joint venture for the commercial management of ethane carriers. The new company, “United Ethane Carriers” or UEC, will be based in Singapore. Its purpose is to develop the ethane business, focusing on marketing, branding and commercial management of ethane carriers internationally. “We’ve known each other for a long time now, meaning that we also know and appreciate the other one’s strengths”, says acques de Chateauvieux, CEO of Jaccar Holdings. “We found that our strengths complement each other very well, particularly in this highly specialized market. UEC provides expertise for our customers’ benefit”, adds Alfred Hartmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Hartmann AG.

Thome to Manage Its First DIS Vessel

Thome Ship Management has reached a new milestone by taking over the full management of its first vessel to be flagged under the Danish International Ship Register. The technical and crew management deal, signed with Danish ship owner Evergas, involves the 12,000 cubic metre ethylene carrier JS Greenstone which was placed under the Danish flag during a recent State visit by HM The Queen of Denmark and HRH The Prince Consort to China.
