DP World and Dubai Carbon Collaborate

UAE ports operator DP World is to launch a crowdfunding project with Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence to help retrofit warehouses in Dubai’s Mina Rashid port, National reported quoting a statement from Dubai Carbon. The agreement was signed by Nabil Battal, Global HSE Director of DP World and Ivano Iannelli, CEO, Dubai Carbon on October 23rd at the19th edition of Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), which runs on October 23rd at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC). DP World has teamed up with Dubai Carbon to launch the initiative, under which UAE residents will reap returns generated through installing solar energy at four industrial sheds.

US Navy, Queensland Partner with Industry

India Can Become Engine of Maritime Growth: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the India's first ever Maritime Summit and said that the country's vast coast line of 7500 km offers vast investment opportunities. “Our maritime agenda will complement this ambitious infrastructure plan for the hinterland, which is going on in parallel,” he said. He called upon international investors to invest in India’s maritime sector, which is poised for quantum growth. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said over the last two years major ports have awarded 56 new projects with an investment of more than Rs 250 billion. This itself, he said, will help create an additional capacity of 317 million tonnes per annum. "Our vision is to increase port capacity from 1,400 million tonnes to 3,000 million tonnes by 2025.

Indian Maritime Development Can Create 10 Million Jobs

Indian minister for shipping Nitin Gadkari has said port and shipping sector has potential to create nearly 4 million direct jobs and 6 million indirect employment opportunities over the next 5 years. Recalling Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s thrust on port led development, Mr Gadkari said his Ministry has drawn up projects with investment potential of Rs 1,20,000 crores, (US $ 18 billion) which will be showcased at the India Maritime Summit to be held in Mumbai from April 14 -16. These include 27 port based industrial clusters, promotion of coastal shipping and development of inland waterways as part of the Sagarmala Project. The Minister said there was an urgent need to bring down the logistics costs to make our products as well exports competitive.

Maritime India Summit Road Show Kick Starts

Kolkata, 3rd Feb, 2016: Industry leaders, corporate heads, policy makers and senior executives took part in the very first road show which served as a run up to the Maritime India Summit’16. Maritime India Summit is being organized by the Ministry of Shipping at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, in Mumbai. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has kindly consented to inaugurate the Summit on 14 April 2016. This event will comprise of an Investors’ Summit and an Exhibition. The Investors’ Summit will be held on 14 - 15 April 2016 whereas the Exhibition and Demo Sessions have been planned for three days i.e. 14 - 16 April 2016.

Marorka to Deploy Vessel Performance Solutions

Abu Dhabi's ADNATCO & NGSCO, the shipping arm of ADNOC and its group of companies, has signed an MOU with Marorka, incorporated and registered in Iceland, a leading company in marine energy management, to supply and install ship performance monitoring systems for the ADNATCO & NGSCO fleet. The agreement was signed by Dr. Ali Obaid Al-Yabhouni, CEO of ADNATCO & NGSCO, and by Ole Skatka Jensen, CEO of Marorka, on the side lines of ADIPEC 2015 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. “This agreement is part of our ongoing commitment to protecting the environment and optimizing the energy efficiency of our fleet using the trusted technology of our partner Marorka,” Dr. Al-Yabhouni said after the signing ceremony.

Hong Kong Sea Parade on 1 July 2014

A flag raising ceremony will be held at 0800 hours on 1 July 2014 at the Golden Bauhinia Square outside the Hong Kong  Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) to celebrate the 17th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR. During the ceremony, a sea parade made up of launches of the disciplinary services will proceed from Causeway Bay to HKCEC between 0745 hours and 0805 hours, and display water jets off HKCEC at 0800 hours. Masters, coxswains and persons-in-charge of all vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and give a wide berth to the parade fleet. Hong Kong to Host Sea Parade

A sea parade comprising of two ferries and about 18 pleasure vessels will take place on July 6, 2014 in Hong Kong, GAC reported in its daily Hot Port News report. Participating vessels will gather in the waters off the west of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) at about 4:30 p.m. The parade will start at about 4:45 p.m., following a route that passes the HKCEC and disperse at the west entrance of Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter at about 5:15 p.m. A fireboat will also display water jets along the parade route. Marine Department and Marine Police patrol launches will be deployed to regulate marine traffic during the passage of the sea parade.

BHP Billiton Commits $20 mi to Telethon Kids Institute

In the largest donation in Telethon history, BHP Billiton has committed $20 million over the next five years to the Telethon Kids Institute to improve the health and wellbeing of children in Western Australia. The first annual instalment of $4 million will kick-start the yearly Western Australian Telethon on Saturday night. The Channel 7 Telethon Trust is a registered charitable trust that has a philosophy to financially support the medical and social welfare of children and young people, and to fund research into children’s diseases. The Telethon Weekend live 26 hour appeal is held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and is televised on Channel 7 Perth and on GWN7 throughout Regional WA.

INMEX SMM India Finds its Footing

The impressive response to the INMEX SMM India 2015 that was officially opened yesterday by Deepak Shetty, Director General of Shipping, Government of India, seems to be a clear indication that the green shoots of economic recovery are finally making their appearance in the country. For some time now there has hardly been any event including conferences and exhibitions that succeeded to break even. But the three-day INMEX SMM India now underway (23rd to 25th September 2015) at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, will certainly be something for most participants to write home about. The turnout of visitors at the opening day was more than expected as lot of interest has been generated in anticipation of new technologies set to make their debut.

Abu Dhabi Ports Sees Cargo Volumes Rise

Abu Dhabi Ports―the master developer, operator and manager of ports and industrial zones in the emirate―said it handled 19 percent more general and bulk cargo in the first nine months of 2015 compared to the same period in 2014. The volumes increased to 11.28 million metric tons in the first three quarters of 2015 from 9.49 million metric tons in the same period last year. This was announced at the first Annual Breakbulk Middle East Conference & Exhibition being hosted by Abu Dhabi Ports at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from October 25 to 28, 2015.

RS at SEA JAPAN 2014

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) was the only Russian company to take part in SEA JAPAN 2014 exhibition and conference – one of the major exhibitions of the maritime industry. The event which brought together the leading industry representatives of the world took place between 9 to 11 April 2014 at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition centre in Tokyo, Japan. The participants of the exhibition were 489 companies from 27 countries of the world. The special focus of the exhibition were the advanced global environment protection technologies including the development of diesel engines with low pollutant emission to the atmosphere, hi-tech energy saving devices and technologies such as air lubrication systems for ship hulls, solar batteries for ships and ecologically clean coatings.
