Navis Joins Aker Arctic for Ice Class DP Design

Navis Engineering Oy and Aker Arctic Technology Inc. have signed a scientific and technical cooperation agreement covering the joint development of technology for dynamic positioning (DP) systems for icebreakers and ice-class vessels. The agreement was signed in St. Petersburg during NEVA 2013 at the end of September. Dynamic positioning systems manufactured by Navis Engineering have been installed on a number of icebreakers and ice-class vessels in recent years, including the Polar supply and research icebreaker SA Agulhas II, the Canadian Coast Guard Scientific icebreaker Amundsen and the Sovcomflot-owned multifunctional icebreaking supply vessels Vitus Bering and Aleksey Chirikov, operating for Exxon Neftegaz Ltd in Sakhalin waters in Russia.

HHI and Transas Hand New Vessel Over to PRISCO

The New tanker Pavel Chernish built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd as part of the 1599 – 1603 project, was handed over to the Primorsk Shipping Corporation (PRISCO). Pavel Chernish is a vessel of ice class 1A according to the DNV classification and fully complies with the requirements of Exxon Neftegaz Ltd, subsidiary of Exxon Mobile. The tankers are designed for oil transportation within the Sakhalin – 1 project. The second tanker of the series will be handed to PRISCO in the near future. The Hyundai Heavy Industries Shipyard will build a total of five vessels during the project. The Transas Group equipped these tankers with the new integrated navigation system, Hyundai-Transas Intelligent Bridge System (HTiBS).
