A group of Russian maritime stakeholders have agreed to develop ship repair cluster in the country’s Far East.The trilateral agreement between PAO Sovcomflot, SMART LNG (a joint venture between PAO Sovcomflot and PAO NOVATEK) and Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center (FESRC, a subsidiary of Rosneft) was signed by: Andrey Shishkin, CEO of FESRC and Vice-President for Energy, Localization and Innovation of Rosneft; Igor Tonkovidov, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sovcomflot, and Sergey Frank, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SMART LNG.

Russian oil company Rosneft announced it has ordered two Aframax crude oil tankers to be built at Russia's far eastern Zvezda shipyard for scheduled delivery in 2022.The Russian-flagged vessels will have a deadweight of 114,000 metric tons and a 1A/1B ice class, which makes them able to operate in icy conditions year round, including in sub-Arctic seas and Russian ports of the Baltic region, said Russian shipping company PAO Sovcomflot (SCF Group).According to the documents, Arctic Leasing will place orders for construction of the two Aframax tankers at the shipyard…

The hope of two, new shipbuilding giants is jobs, innovation, national survival and export security. The model is to invite those who have done it before: Koreans, Japanese, French and a contractor with offshore and marine experience.

South Korea’s troubled shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. announced that it has been selected as the preferred bidder for a 12-oil tanker contract worth $660 million of Russia’s Sovcomflot, reports Korea Herald. Russia’s largest state-owned shipping company Sovcomflot last month chose the South Korean shipbuilder as preferred bidder to build 12 oil tankers which will be used to carry crude oil produced in Russia to overseas. Sovocomflot will charter the fleet to Shell. Sovcomflot is a state-owned shipping company that specializes in petroleum and LNG shipping. The two firms are in talks to determine detailed terms of the agreement and plan to sign a deal within the month.

Zvezda shipyard (Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center) held a solemn ceremony dedicated to Submariner’s Day and to the end of overhaul of nuclear-powered cruiser Kuzbass, says press center of Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center. CEO of Zvezda shipyard Yuri Filchenok and Acting Armaments Commander, Pacific Fleet, Rear Admiral Igor Korolev, signed the acceptance/delivery papers at the pier during the ceremony. The Project 971 submarine was laid down July 28, 1991 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and launched May 18, 1992. The Kuzbass entered service with the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet on February 5, 1993 and operated in the Pacific and the Arctic.

United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) has taken on 53.5122% of the voting shares of the long planned Far Eastern Plant Zvezda shipbuilding complex in Russia’s Far East. Zvezda (a company of the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center, or FESRC) is a leading shipyard providing services for repairs of submarines of the Russia’s Pacific Fleet and the only company in the Far East specializing in repairs, conversion and modernization of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines. Frustrated with the lack of yard space to build new tankers and oil platforms as high-priority naval orders filled up shipyards, state oil major Rosneft in 2013 launched a 111 billion ruble ($2 billion) modernization project at Zvezda, formerly one of the Soviet Union’s largest military shipyards.

German and Finnish partners continue to build Russia’s Far Eastern “Zvezda” shipyard for Arctic oil exploration ships, in spite of Western sanctions, reports Sputnik. According to Director of the Far Eastern enterprise Yuri Filecroc, German and Finnish partners are working at the shipyard diligently, as they are interested in the job. "We hope they will cooperate with us, as these companies are global leaders," he added. The “Zvezda” factory, located in Russia’s Far East, is the leading plant for repairing submarines of the Pacific Fleet. It is also the region’s unique engineering complex for fixing, upgrading and modernizing ballistic missile submarines. The shipyard will become operational in 2016. It will build vessels for hydrocarbon exploration in the Arctic.

At the 21st World Petroleum Congress Rosneft, Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Gazprom, NOVATEK, Gazprombank, Sovkomflot, United Shipbuilding Corporation signed a Joint Venture Agreement in relation to the implementation of vessel, drilling rig and marine equipment construction and design projects on the 16th of June. The document was signed in the presence of Vice-Premier Arkady Dvorkovich. Taking part in a round-table discussion in St. Petersburg on the efficient and safe development of the Arctic, Rosneft's President and Chairman Igor Sechin, informed that the Arctic contains 20% of the world’s oil reserves, and that his company will invest around $400bln in its Arctic offshore program over 20 years.
